After NBC’s worst season, it’s no surprise that the peacock network is shaking up their 2007-08 schedule. There’s also little surprise about which shows didn’t survive. Here’s what won’t be returning next season:
Andy Barker, P.I. – The Andy Richter comedy series ran for six episodes to poor ratings. NBC put the last two on Saturday night and it seemed like the sitcom was doomed before it began.
The Black Donnellys – The Paul Haggis series was pulled after six episodes and the remaining episodes have been made available on NBC’s site and iTunes.
Crossing Jordan – After six seasons on the air, Jordan has solved her last case. The series finale airs on Wednesday, May 16, 2007.
Grease: You’re The One That I Want – The ratings were a disappointment and seriously, how could they do another season anyway — fire the first years’ winners to make room for the second’s?
Identity – The Penn Jillette-hosted game show about contestants identifying strangers’ hobbies or occupations is finished after 12 episodes.
Kidnapped – NBC’s big serial drama under-performed network expectations and was cancelled after three episodes and pulled from the schedule after five. Luckily for viewers, NBC released the remaining seven episodes online and the series has been released on DVD.
Raines – The quirky Jeff Goldblum detective show ran all seven episodes to poor ratings. It won’t be back.
The Real Wedding Crashers – The reality series that replaced Donnellys was pulled from the schedule after three episodes. NBC may air the remaining episodes during the summer.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip – The much-hyped Aaron Sorkin series didn’t live up to expectations. It will return on May 24th and hopefully NBC will air all six of the remaining episodes. A DVD release is likely.
Thank God You’re Here – The improv sketch show’s ratings were nothing to smile about so it’s been cancelled after seven episodes.
Twenty Good Years – This sitcom starred series veterans John Lithgow and Jeffrey Tambor, was pulled from the network schedule after just four episodes. It’s doubtful that the remaining episodes will air.
Returning in the fall are: 30 Rock, The Biggest Loser, Dateline, Deal or No Deal, ER, Friday Night Lights (moved to Fridays at 10pm), Heroes, Las Vegas, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Law & Order: SVU, My Name is Earl, The Office, and Scrubs. Law & Order and Medium (moved to Sunday nights) will return mid-season (January 2008) or earlier.
The Apprentice was left off the Fall schedule but NBC and creator Mark Burnett are still in talks of bringing back the series in some form. Mark Burnett previously pledged to find another home for the reality show if NBC drops it.
The Friday night 8pm timeslot has been designated as “game night” and will consist of rotating reality or games shows. The Bob Saget-hosted series 1 vs. 100 will air for eight weeks initially.
I really enjoyed Raines. I can’t believe it has been cancelled. I think it is better than Medium. Please bring it back……Changing from Thur. to Fri. night maybe the reason you lost the audience. People were looking for it to come back on Thur. night. Here is a good idea. Bring it back on Sat. nights. Can’t find nothing good on Sat. night.
Wow, the people at NBC need to read these boards. What would be a real good move, would be for CBS or ABC to pick up Crossing Jordan and keep it going, than maybe NBC would learn the lesson about what shows to keep and what to cut. Raines was a good show, which in my opinion, was never given a chance. NBC needs to think twice when they move a shows timeslot. It was a hard choice for my family to decide between Criminal Minds and Crossing Jordan, but CM is going to be waiting for reruns, because we… Read more »
How studpid to cancel a show like Raines when you had such talent and good material. I marvel at the stupidity to cancel an entaining show and leave garbage on the air such as reality shows. Next, NBC will be stupid enough to cancel the most terrific show of Medium. I hope not because then I will know you have no adults making executive decisions, I guess NBC did not want to stay on top otherwise they would not cancel such shows as Raines or Crossing Jordon. What is it? Are teenagers runing the choices now????
Cancelling Raines? I didn’t think NBC was that stupid. One of the only shows that shows some interest, well written and acted. Your making a big mistake.
Please bring RAINES back. That show is great and Jeff is so good.
Maybe some other network will steal a winner like RAINES.
In Canada, “Studio 60” aired on Sunday night, a day before it aired in the US, and it did quite well. I think it was just poorly scheduled.
I didn’t like Raines, so I don’t mind that it was canceled, but I am still extremely disappointed that The Black Donnellys was canceled. It was an amazing show. I also really like Studio 60. I don’t understand why NBC would cancel those shows, especially when they tried to stick in stupid things like Identity, the Whose Line Is It Anyway ripoff, and the “Real Wedding Crashers” garbage. Maybe if they’d used the advertising and air time spent on that trash for their better shows, they could have reached more people. When The Black Donnellys was canceled, I had only… Read more »
sure cancel good shows lide CJ and Raines and put more reality shows on. Blahhhhhh
NBC… your network used to be the main network that I watched. But more and more often, you are cancelling decent shows only to replace them with crappy reality TV. You treated Crossing Jordan like crap this season, postponing the start of the show, and then putting it on Wednesday nights against American Idol. You should have kept it in its regular time slow on Sundays. And I can’t believe that you have cancelled it only to produce more crappy shows that will get cancelled next season or stupid reality tv shows which I will never watch. After six seasons… Read more »
Thank God You’re Here was a funny show with a lot of potential. Why cancel new shows so quickly instead of trying new time slots?
I am very disappointed you have canceled Crossing Jordon. I have watched it from the beginning. I can now see why less viewers watch tv. Reality shows are not as popular as you think there are. Only to the ones who want to watch theirselves .
Stupid move to cancel Crossing Jordan & Ranies. More reasons for my family to NOT watch NBC. We hate the reality shows too. NBC’s loss someones elses gain.
How is it the execs at NBC were not cancelled instead of some of the shows.
When shows like Cheers, Hill Street Blues, etc were on, they were nutured and given a chance to grow. Now, it is show me the ratings by episode 2. It is hard to build a loyal fan base if you do not allow the fan base to grow roots.
I’m confused.. Studio 60 was put on hiatus in Feb to be replaced by the Black Donnellys and Real Wedding Crashers (who both rated far below Studio 60’s ratings), NBC later finds out that DVR ratings were high for Studio 60, so the ratings were not a fair replection – they then announce it’s coming back at the end of May (next week), but before it’s given a chance, it’s cancelled. I agree with another poster here – time to get to HBO Aaron and Tommy – we’ll all see you there – where, it seems the quality, intelligent TV… Read more »
I cannot believe they cancelled Crossing Jordan! The last episode was a good closing one but this show, the cast is so good together, the story lines always keep you guessing. Another bad call in my opinion. Should have kept that one on.
