Last night, ABC wrapped up the first season of 500 Questions, their new primetime game show. How did it do in the ratings? Is it a slam-dunk to be renewed for a second season or, will it certainly be cancelled instead?
Hosted by Richard Quest, 500 Questions lets some adult geniuses try to answer 500 very difficult general knowledge questions and win lots of cash — without answering three in a row incorrectly.
Airing over the course of seven evenings, the series debuted on May 20th to a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.058 million viewers. It wasn’t a great start, even for a summer series.
The numbers dropped over the seven episodes but didn’t dip below four million. They averaged a 1.04 demo rating with 4.79 million.
Looking at the numbers, there’s really no reason for ABC to renew 500 Questions for a second season. It surely didn’t attract much attention as an “event”. Still, there is a chance that the network will bring it back for another short run, filling a gap in their schedule. It didn’t cost ABC much to make and it did maintain its (small) viewership numbers as people begin to cut back on their television viewing in the warmer months.
But, what do you think? Do you like the 500 Questions series? Cancel or keep it?

THE BEST GAME EVER KEEP IT RICHARD QUEST IS COOL
I wonder if we were all watching the same show. Now, truth be told, I did hate watch 5 hours of this thing so I have no room to judge anyone who watches it but I can certainly judge the creators. The pacing was brutally slow and ill timed. I can’t imagine being an audience member at the taping. Unless they had an open bar, I don’t know how someone from the audience didn’t start rioting after being there for what must of been days. The red devil lights behind the contestants were ridiculous at best. What the heck were… Read more »
THE BEST GAME EVER KEEP IT
Love Jeopardy, bored with 500 Questions. Too much talking, not enough trivia.
I love the show, please keep it.
Love the show! Please renew it! What a welcomed change from the “low brow” reality shows flooding TV programming! Just one suggestion: It is so fast-paced, that at times it is very difficult to hear the correct answer that is given. It would be helpful to the viewers if they could simply “flash” the correct answer before going onto the next question.
Please keep. Celebrating smart Americans is a welcome change from barrage og dumbed down Americans.
There enough silly and nonsensical game and realty shows on the air. The network is not capable of keeping on decent drama programs.
Definitely keep it – it is time to raise the low-brow TV by showing off the best minds in the country!
AMEN! I myself recall being able to answer only TWO of the questions asked! But watching it was VERY stimulating to my brain! For some reason, I felt PROUD of the contestants. And I felt I was watching something VERY worthwhile. I SO HOPE THIS SHOW RETURNS!!!!
Please KEEP 500 Questions. Richard Quest was very entertaining as well.
Did not like the host. British idioms very distracting. Questions were very hard and could not come up with many answers myself. One rich genius against another rich genius. Hard for regular people to relate to them.
I love the show and Richard Quest is very refreshing. I like how quick paced it is and how you don’t have to wait forever for an answer. Only one negative to this format…it would take someone forever to make it to 500 questions.
We all need to exercise our brains. Please keep 500 Questions. Look how long Jeopardy has been on. I’ve been a fan of for 50 years. I love shows that make me think.
Please keep it!!! I love the show!!!
Loved it!
