There are 26 letters in the alphabet but NBC’s A to Z TV show only lasted five episodes before being cancelled. The peacock network has decided not to order any more installments beyond their initial 13 episode order.
A to Z follows the story of Andrew (Ben Feldman) and Zelda (Cristin Milioti) — two young people who are very different. Their relationship shouldn’t work and yet it does. Is it true love forever or just a detour in destiny? The rest of the cast includes Christina Kirk, Henry Zebrowski, Hong Chau, Lenora Crichlow, and Katey Sagal.
Debuting on October 2nd, the series got off to a poor start with a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.79 million viewers. Viewership fell 24% in week two and the ratings kept falling every week after that. This week’s installment, opposite CBS’ returning sitcoms, hit a new low with a 0.7 in the demo and 2.49 million viewers.
Based on the numbers, it’s no surprise that NBC is cancelling A to Z. It is a bit surprising however that the show is staying in production. Eleven episodes have been shot and two more will be produced. Hopefully, the sitcom’s writer will be able to adjust the remaining scripts to bring a fitting conclusion to Andrew and Zelda’s story.
For now, NBC plans to air the eight remaining episodes. The Blacklist will take over the Thursdays at 9pm timeslot on February 5th.
Companion sitcom Bad Judge has also been cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like the A to Z TV show? Do you think that NBC should have cancelled it? Would you have watched a second season?
I claim for saving that show
i love A to Z give it a chance it just needs a little of excitement and we need to see something new maybe they should break up or something and then get back but do not cancel it we love it it has honesty an pure i realy think we need these kind of showes now
i like both girls, there hot & i dont went this show canceled…..
First of all I agree with the comment made by Just Joan, however as for me I love the concept but for me Stu, Henry Zebrowski and Big Bird killed it. I don’t see the need for a overbearing guy running his mouth and trying to run everyone else’s life, Just not funny to me, he did a great acting job because he made me not like him from the start. As for Big Bird that was just plain stupid and really had nothing to add to this show. I’m sorry to see this show go but it lasted long… Read more »
so is it going to be cancelled or no…………………
please renew this show :'(
NBC…shame on you. Give A to Z a chance. It’s a good show and funny.
at lest end in a good way, cause i seen good shows that got cancelled & it was in the middle of the season….. its sad when it happen
NBC ALWAYS cancels great shows. This was one of them Such a disappointment. This was a clever, well written and funny show that my husband, me and kids all loved watching. Very sad to see it go. Please give it another chance… perhaps a better time slot?
at list ended in a good story……
I enjoyed this show. I would have loved a season 2. I try to get into new shows and they always get canceled. The good one always get cut.
i love that show! would have totally watched a second season 🙁
My husband and I loved this show! Please bring it back. It was cute, quirky, and funny…we always looked forward to a new episode every week. This is really sad news.
yeah, they should of finish the story…. at list end it in a bang!!!!!
This sucks. I have just finished watching the 8 episodes and googled to see when’s the next one coming only to see that it’s already starting to wrap up. I wish they would renew this, I was even looking forward to sitting in front of my television every week for 2015 waiting for the next episode of A to Z. The story is genuinely funny and i love it… i’d say they should continue this show.
what!!!! they cancelled this show f@#k!!!!!it was a kind of a good show but i though it would add list it could finish this season
This show is really funny and they should bring a season two. The plot is really interesting as it is also based on the modern day dating norm. I don’t think that NBC should have cancelled the programme, one fact that they did not consider before cancelling the show is, that they would need to build up the reputation of A to Z. They cannot immediately suspect that they would have high ratings from a couple of episodes. It may be absurd to use this quote however “Rome wasnt built in a day”. In context to the TV programme, they… Read more »
Society……how can we seriously expect TV execs to continue to pour money into intelligent, thoughtful comedy if we keep showing them our love for Family Guy and Big Bang Theory? This was easily becoming mine and my wife’s favorite new comedy. It had great character development and an engaging storyline. And sweet as can be. Network got this one wrong, but they’re just reflecting dumb Americans, I guess.
I actually agree with you this wonderful series it is pure and nice and neat and different from many series who is full of violence and repetition and surface
This show needs to be saved…it’s genuinely funny…no canned laughter…same thing with Selfie…
I would have liked to have a good conclusion on the series finale. I do not like how it ended, and I really wish it wasn’t being cancelled in the middle of the season
This show has all the ingredients of a long-running success (despite its A-Z episode limitation!) great cast with chemistry, cohesive band of main characters with strong side-kick personalities, and consistently clever, good writing.
Far worse shows have stayed on far longer.
So disappointing…
Well done to Rashida Jones, Will McCormack, cast & crew.
My vOte’s for yOu.
