Sometimes, TV shows that are based movies can be big successes. Sometimes not. About a Boy was not and now NBC has cancelled it after two seasons without even airing all of the episodes.
About a Boy revolves around San Francisco songwriter Will Freeman (David Walton) who had a big hit. It set him up for life financially — and gave him a lot of freedom and free time. His world is turned upside down when a charming boy named Marcus (Benjamin Stockham) and single mom named Fiona (Minnie Driver) move in next door.
The sitcom debuted in February of 2014 with a special preview episode that attracted a healthy 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.26 million viewers. In its regular timeslot a week later, the ratings rose a bit to a 2.47 rating with 8.36 million. The numbers started falling after that but NBC still renewed it for a second season.
Season two performed even worse and lost a lot of steam. It hit a new series low of a 0.69 rating in the demo with 2.41 million viewers. NBC decided to trim About a Boy’s episode order by two and then opted to drop it from the schedule, leaving six installments unaired.
The network hasn’t announced any plans to air the leftover episodes and, now that they’ve cancelled the series, it doesn’t look likely that they will.
What do you think? Do you like the About a Boy sitcom? Would you like to watch the remaining six episodes?
Very disappointed. I would like to a platform like Yahoo Screen pick it up.
i love this show!! so smart and funny!!
please don’t cancel or someone else pick it up…please!!
This was my family’s favorite comedy series EVER! I would definitely watch the remaining episodes, maybe they could be released to Netflix where the other shows are still available. This is shocking.
NBC IS SO STUPID FOR CANCELLING THIS GREAT SERIES!!
Well I’m from Australia and lucky for us we got to see all 33 episodes of the show but would of been nice if they were to make a season 3 but doesn’t look promising unfortunately I thought the show was fantastic
Nooooooo ! Bring it back !!
This was one of the best shows on tv this really sucks that we support get to see it anymore
This show was probably the best show I’ve seen on TV. It was a Jason Katims series so it was obviously loving, caring, and funny. It was cancelled because of bad ratings, but it was their fault for putting it in a terrible timeslot and late at night. It was a total shame that this show was cancelled because it had so much potential, but obviously NBC doesn’t like heart-warming shows, they only like shows with emergency room scenes and savage killers. I hope this show gets picked up by another network who knows how to handle their comedies, like… Read more »
Loved the show! Would ABSOLUTELY like to see the unaired episodes!
Cancelled!! Seriously, you’ve got to be kidding. It’s the only comedy on TV that is funny and fun! Love the cast andr t is well written. NBC, who is making your decisions! Guess it doesn’t have enough sex and murder?? There are a lot more people than just me who would rather watch a show with a good message on it, than all the reality shows (boo) and not funny at all sitcoms that y’all leave on the air!
Less and less to watch on tv!
Very disappointed again with NBC
🙁
This is horrible news…my son and I loved this show. Once again, the networks have let us down. Another great family show is gone…disgusting! I really dislike the way the world is heading. No loyalty and all about corporate greed rule.
This is the worst news ever!!!!! Why does this always happen to great shows!!! Writing was really great!!!
I’m very bummed About a Boy is not rened! Loved the show…funny, heart warming!
Here I sit cursing the computer yet again! Another of my favorite go to shows cancelled. This show was sweet and funny and awesome, another step closer to cancelling my cable, why pay a huge price to not watch anything. These networks are insane. Not all of us want to watch idiot reality lame boring television.
Loved the show. Knew it wouldn’t last long first time I watched it. Much too tender and endearing for the American audience.
I LOVED THIS SERIES! IT WAS FUNNY AND WELL WRITTEN! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE NETWORK EXECUTIVES!!
Dam it … first selfie then Mindy now about a boy
