NBC had big hopes for their all-drama Thursday night schedule. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dismal and now the network has cancelled their new drama, Allegiance, after five episodes.
On the Allegiance TV show, Katya and Mark O’Connor (Hope Davis and Scott Cohen) and their daughter Natalie (Margarita Levieva) are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Their mission is to turn their son Alex (Gavin Stenhouse), an idealistic CIA analyst, into a spy. Others in the cast are Morgan Spector, Kenneth Choi, and Alex Peters.
The series debuted on February 5th to a dismal 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.98 million viewers. Then the numbers got even worse after that, hitting lows with a 0.7 in the demo and 3.32 million viewers.
NBC’s eight-episode mini-series The Slap has also been doing very poorly and recently relocated The Blacklist has been taking a beating opposite Scandal on ABC and with no lead-in support.
The network has now decided to pull the plug on Allegiance. They’re moving The Slap to 10pm for the remainder of its short run and will fill the 8pm timeslot with special editions of Dateline NBC.
It’s unclear how many episodes of Allegiance will be left unaired or when/if they will see the light of day. Whatever happens, it looks unlikely that the show’s relatively small audience will get any kind of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Allegiance on NBC? Do you think that the network should have cancelled this series? Should they air the remaining episodes?
WTF?! Can’t believe they would choose the slap (horrible!!) over allegiance. No more NBC for my family. How disappointing!
This was a great show that would have gotten better ratings if it was aired at an earlier time. This was my favorite show and they cancel it and kept “the slap”. The slap is terrible and one of the worst shows on TV but they chose to keep it? I don’t know who is calling the shots there but they are terribly wrong in my opinion
There’s so damn little on TV worth watching these days.
Now that Allegiance is cancelled, I’ve no reason to tune
into NBC. Too bad – they never really gave it a chance.
NBC finally has a good show and then the blow it. No wonder they are not doing well as a station
I stopped watched Elementary to watch Allegiance! Was that in vain?
NBC. Has had a quick hook on new series with inproper lead- ins so the showed didn’t last! Interesting, inventive shows like Allegiance, Constantine and even Believe gone!! Put Constantine after Grimm like it was and the other shows with better spots. Put the Blacklist back on Monday night!! Wake up NBC!!
We thought finallly NBC had a great
a great Thursday lineup. Allegiance is a great TV drama. We have enjoyed it and are extremely disappointed that you decided to take it off the air. You should have advertised it more and if it’s not doing well in the ratings, move the time slot. To give up so quickly is ridiculous. TV needs more quality dramas. Disappointed in NBC, looks like we’ll be back to Netflixs.
NBC should be ashamed to show the Slap. Allegiance was at least interesting without being disgusting
Too bad!! This was one of our favorite shows! We looked forward to watching every week. Wish NBC would bring it back!
While not original, the idea of a spy family could have worked. Too bad the producers failed to get writers who could come up with more compelling plots. The characters were also bland and uninteresting. While The Americans of FX have been very successful, this show lacked tension and imagination. Maybe they should have used more wigs!
GeET RID OF CRAPPY “SLAP ” !! PUT ALLEGIENCE BACK ON
I love the Blacklist. Wish it was still on it’s original day. I hope NBC does not cancel it as well. The Slap is a travesty. Whoever thought this would be a good premise for a series needs to be slapped. Allegiance apparently had none by NBC. Too bad. Another very good show for people with a modicum of intelligence bites the dust. No wonder no one watches NBC.
Well said Elaine!
…and this is why I watch cable. You only have so many smart written TV shows and Allegiance was one of them. Leave it to NBC to screw it up and dump it. A little more promoting would have helped and a sense of loyalty too. Figures that high price executives would not see the value in a TV show that had a future (over the long run).
Aha, the almighty dollar rears its ugly head once again.
Wtf??? Finally a decent if not a great show and it just got slashed? You TV Channels are just retarded! Dumb a$$ shows and comedies are on the daily list and being renewed to 99 seasons, but once you have a show with some brain you pull the plug? Shame on you. But then what do you expect in the age where the Kardashians rule the TV and internet!
The show was interesting but The Americans is SOOO much better, that if you were following both, once the son caved and went with his parents to the dark side, it was all over. Yes, I’d like to see how the rest of the season would have played out, but I suggest the fans go to FX and watch The Americans (better yet, start it from the beginning on Netflix)
The Blacklist and Allegiance were my favorite shows.
I hate that Allegiance was cancelled.
