FOX has released their new schedule for mid-season and Allen Gregory wasn’t on it. What does this mean? Has the animated series been cancelled?
Allen Gregory revolves around an arrogant and delusional seven-year-old, Allen Gregory De Longpre (Jonah Hill), who’s being raised by his persnickety father, Richard (French Stewart), and his father’s hunky life partner, Jeremy (Nat Faxon). Neither Allen Gregory nor his father are fond of adopted Cambodian daughter Julie (Joy Osmanski). Because of the recession, Allen Gregory is forced to start attending a public elementary school. He meets his best friend/personal servant Patrick (Christina Puccelli), his idol Joel (Jake Johnson), and his crush, the school’s senior citizen principal (Renée Taylor)
Following a slew of negative reviews, the series debuted on October 30th. It attracted a 2.4 in the 18-49 demographic with 4.77 million total viewers putting it in last place for its timeslot. The series tied with The Cleveland Show as FOX’s lowest-rated show of the night and was even out-performed by a repeat of The Simpsons. This certainly wasn’t an auspicious beginning. A year earlier in the same timeslot, an episode of The Cleveland Show performed 30% better.
Allen Gregory fell by nearly 13% in week two and still hasn’t stopped falling. This week’s installment fell an amazing 21% in the demo, hitting a new series low of a 1.5 in the demo and 3.18 million viewers. It currently ranks 12th out of 13 scripted shows on the network, beating only Fringe which airs on Friday nights. It has “D+” demo grade on the network report card and, the way things are going, it won’t take long for that grade to drop even lower.
FOX ordered just seven installments of Allen Gregory and, the way things have gone, they’re very likely glad they didn’t ask for any more. There are two episodes left to air and they’ll be finished airing by December 11th. The network could run repeats after that but may decide to run something else. New episodes of Allen Gregory have done so poorly that its hard to imagine that reruns wouldn’t do even worse.
FOX hasn’t officially cancelled Allen Gregory and has no reason to announce it if they did, at least until the show’s off the schedule. If they did, the ratings would only go down.
They’ve made no mention of putting new episodes into production — even though they ordered additional scripts way back in July. Animated shows need a longer lead time for production so FOX has often handed out very early renewals. Not so in this case.
In the end, it makes no sense for FOX to renew the Allen Gregory show for a second season. It’s performed very poorly and the network has plenty of better-performing animated fare.
But, what do you think? Do you like the series? Do you think it should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

I like Allen Greogry he grows on you. The episode with the gay school date was a turn off. But, after the rest of the episodes it was a delight to watch. Too have to have a sense of humor to enjoy Allen greogry.
Every second that this shows airs is agony.
This show is starting to grow on me a little bit. Family guy #1, Cleveland Show, then Bob’s Burgers, then Allen Gregory. It’s not the best show on tv (AG) but not the worst either. If it keeps going I will watch because I do watch the Sunday night Fox adult humor cartoons….but yeah, I agree it has to get better to stay on tv.
basically all of those shows you listed suck. and the simpsons should just ******* die already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we’ll miss you allen gregory. and all of seth mcfartlanes characters are stupid and overplayed… might as well be the same characters in family guy and american dad the cleveland shows the only one thats mildly entertaining
AGREED!! The Simpsons should’ve ended in season 4 at the very latest.
We’re offered something different like Allen Gregory, and eveyone is too happy with the same old ******** to give it the chance to flourish.
I admit; the Allen Gregory stories have become second rate to the story arc of his parents. The overt gay parent and his slightly unsure and reluctant partner has me in stitches.
I too seem to be in the minority. I find the show very entertaining but it seems I am not delusional and think I’m a film genius like so many people who love to hate everyting. I love it and will be disappointed to see it go.
This show is so annoyingly unfunny I’m glad its done but I don’t think Napoleon dynamite will do any better.
Oh my god I think it is the BEST animated show, it is even now to me officially better than Family Guy, it should stay on the air. I think it should stay on the air. I think Jonah Hill is by far talented. Bobs Burger sucks!!
The best animated show? I know there’s no accounting for taste, but have you even seen The Simpsons? Futurama? Archer? All far better than this dud.
The Simpsons – 7.5/10
Family Guy – 10/10
The Cleveland Show – 5/10
American Dad- 9/10
Allen Gregory – 4/10
Bobs Burgers – 5/10
Comments on my ratings?
Family Guy is hands down the best animated series ever created on television and f..c yea, Allen gregory should be cancelled. Its a waste of Jonah Hill’s talent on a crappy TV show. The film industry needs something new, something different, something we never saw happen on television. And i have a few ideas – i just can’t get them to the film industry that easy.
I don’t like them at all. Family Guy is good, but is not better than the Simpsons throughout its history. You also left out two great shows, Futurama and South Park.
I dont understand the low ratings. I love that show! Looks like I’m the minority.
I agree Bob’s Burgers is Garbage compared to Allen Gregory, but still not a very good comment. Jonah nice attempt but stick with your movies.
If it’s true, THANK GOD!!!
GOOD RIDDANCE! Is this show supposed to be funny? social commentary? politically correct? FAIL —on all accounts
I flipping love Allen Gregory! Bob’s Burgers was the worst crap I’ve ever seen…
It’s bad, very bad.
Allen Gregory is horrible. Not funny and torture to watch. Family Guy is amazing, creative and always a riot. There is no comparison between these two shows. CANCEL ALLEN GREGORY!!!!! BLAH!
