It’s the end of the world as we know it. Sky has cancelled the You, Me and the Apocalypse TV series after its first season. The British-American sitcom airs on NBC, stateside.
Season one ends after the meteor hits earth. The survivors, played by stars including Mathew Baynton, Pauline Quirke, Diana Rigg, and Joel Fry, are ensconced in an underground bunker. Baynton was ready to tell the post-apocalyptic story, but Sky is letting the first and only season stand on its own.
Radio Times reports that Sky has decided against a second season of the show, for the narrative’s sake, which is rather refreshing. Here are the details:
“A story with the end of the world at its heart was always going to be hard to bring back and has reached its natural conclusion,” the broadcaster told RadioTimes.com.
“The news that a comet was on a unavoidable collision course towards earth triggered a joyous, fun, 34 day dramatic countdown to the end of the world in You, Me and the Apocalypse. Our cast of characters did things they never believed they would do and gave us a show that was loved by critics and the audience alike.
“We thank the entire creative team, cast and everyone working at Working Title Television and NBCUniversal International Studios”.
What do you think? Do you wish the You, Me and the Apocalypse TV show had been renewed for a second season, or do you think Sky did the right thing? Let us know. (I feel fine.)
Reviews are good. People like it. What’s the problem? Lock these characters in a bunker and I think you have enough material to last quite a while. Makes no sense.
I just finished watching it and absolutely love it. I agree with the reasoning behind no season 2. It stands fine on its own. Too often, a TV series ends up being renewed way past its time and then it only becomes a horrible show to watch. Luckily, this show will not fall into that category. It is a very smart show with dark humor. Again, I absolutely loved it. I watched it practically back to back and finished it within a week. I enjoyed the characters. I like the idea of mini series like this one. Good job to… Read more »
But why make a miniseries that ends on a cliffhanger? They obviously didn’t intend to only have one season when they wrote the show! If you’re just doing one, finish it off properly! What a crappy ending!
It was good except for the ending. Unfortunate that the writers chose to contradict the season with the stupid finale. This reminds me of Heroes, great first season but then the villain is killed but WAIT he is not! Go and be creative elswhere writers – I am sure you could have thought of new confilct.
I loved this show. The mix of drama and comedy was great. Dramedy may be my new favorite genre (or is it Comema).
Please, renew! I want to see season 2. It’s one of the best series 2015-2016!!! Like it so much!
Wwwwwwhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!A!!,!! The cliffhanger!!!!!! I’m crying inside!,!! I hate shows that end like that. Fricken cliffhanger
Once again a creative, fun, and wonderfully different show gets cancelled. I believe I’ve finally given up on network tv. Especially tv that I can watch with my daughter who i’d rather not watch scenes about rape and murder or people dying in emergency rooms If it’s not a crime, cop, or medical drama it’s got to go. Gee maybe they can have another Law and Order or CSI spinoff replace it and we can be fed the same formulaic crap that seems to be the only thing that appeals to whoever is deciding whether or not a show rates… Read more »
How many times can I like this comment ?!!
No surprise considering the low level of television that survives in place of good, creative shows like this one. It seems fitting that this show about the end of the world should be canceled while reality crap continues to survive. I don’t care about the excuses from the network; there is no way that it was a natural way to end the show. It’s the end of good television as we know it!
Very disappointed, wish they reconsider. My kids are so sad as well. Bring it back, awesome actors.
Keep the show!!
Not surprised that a show touting the end of the world is ove after the meteor hits. I wish more shows took the que of providing a good story and providing some sense of an ending. At least it’s better than getting no ending at all.
My entire family is greatly disappointed that the show will not be continuing for a second season! This was a great show. All of the actors agre great at acting and being extremely believable! The only disappointment is killing off Rob Lowe. It’s a terrible mistake not to make a second season. BRING IT BACK!
I gave been leary of watching new shows, and this is exactly why. I cannot stress enough how disappointed I am, actually more like pissed…
My husband and I look forward to watching every week, and I was so disappointed to find out it wasn’t coming back (he doesn’t know yet). Please, please, PLEASE reconsider!
I’m so disappointed to hear it’s been cancelled especially the way it ended I just watched it all in a day and found out it was cancelled I wldt have watched it if I knew it was cancelled
