It appears that plans for season three of BBC’s Atlantis have sunk. The TV show, which airs on BBC America here in the States, has been cancelled after two seasons.
On Atlantis, a young man named Jason (Jack Donnelly) goes in search of his long-missing father and ends up on the shores of ancient Atlantis. He’s befriended by a pair of unlucky locals — former prize fighter Hercules (Mark Addy) and intellectual Pythagoras (Robert Emms) — as well as a revered Oracle (Juliet Stevenson). Others in the cast include Sarah Parish, Aiysha Hart, and Jemima Rooper.
BBC announced the show’s cancellation this way: “The final seven episodes of Atlantis will transmit on BBC One in spring. We would like to thank Urban Myth Films and all the cast and crew but the series will not be re-commissioned. We are very proud of both series but to keep increasing the range of BBC One drama we have to make difficult decisions to bring new shows through.”
Six of the 13 episodes of season two have aired so far in the US. No word on when they’ll be released here.
What do you think? Do you like the Atlantis TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a third season?
I loved this show ! I recently turned on several friends to it and they too have enjoyed it! We can only watch it after it airs on ON DEMAND. You should reconsider this move for BBC
Main actors and actresses from Atlantis (new roles) : Robert Emms (unknown role) – Capital (TV Series), Sarah Parish (Anna Rampton) – W1A (TV Series), Amy Manson (Merida) – Once Upon a Time (TV Series)
No they should not have cancelled Atlantis this was a very good show I know it kept me in my seat for hours and I don’t even like television finally I found something to watch and again bbc cancelled it on me just like they ended merlin and now the channel plays countless hours of repeat star trek and doctor who ……………and orphan black…….pleas bring back the good shows I would love to see more seasons of Atlantis
I just stumbled on this show recently… and was immediately hooked, absolutely love it.. and then to my dismay i find out that it has been cancelled. So sad.. I truly wish it would come back. I was so excited to find a good show that i could not wait to watch every episode.
Oh wow. I look forward in watching the show here in the States. I even got a few of my friends to watch it. Now its cancelled. This is just a prime example of not knowing just how much your audience really love the show. Thanks BBC for pi!#$%%$% in our faces. We sure wont be supporting your station, and I’ll definitely spread the word not to watch this station. It was an awesome show that I look forward to watching every Saturday. I had the same fun factor as watching the Vampire Diaries. What a crazy way to end… Read more »
BBC you have done your audience a true disservice by cancelling Atlantis. i don’t even get BBC America where i live so i spent the money to buy the 2nd season on VUDU as it aired. truly disappointed and i pray you will see these comments and reconsider your position
For all lovers of Atlantis – good news !!! Teletubbies is a British children’s television series(on the BBC).A new series of Teletubbies will air in 2016.
For Atlantis to really work it would have had to have been more like Spartacus (the TV show) instead we got something more akin to Teletubbies.
This show rocks …how can you end the series without an actual end..please finish this off
Atlantis is not BS. Atlantis is GS.(Godzilla s**t !)
Atlantis cancelled by the BBC 26.01.2015 – 7 months ago and all the cast and crew but the series will not be re-commissioned. In the last 3 years(2013,2014,2015) there were only 26 episodes. 26*45(min)=1,170 min BBC TV program: 24(hours)*60(min)*365(days)*3(years)=1,576,800 min.
Did you see anything else except Atlantis ? (BBC television) Very funny.
please do not cancel this excellent show. how will know how it all turns out?mh
The BBC have beaten the gods to it and destroyed Atlantis before Zeus had so much as prepped his thunderbolt. Much as some of us like to cling to fond memories of the gauzily lit children’s fantasy adaptations of the past. And what new twists (like illegal magic or Jason being from the twenty-first century) might they add to spice things up ?
This was a very good show, it’s not being cancelled for lack of an audience but to make room for new dramas! I won’t be watching BBC anymore!
To all of which this may concern: I personally and strongly felt as though BBC should have continued Atlantis. I feel so sad to know that I will never know what was to become of Jason and of course the lovely and wonderful Ariadne. I think they should continue the series at least on BBC America. I mean come on now ultimately I think there would be some big battles and things and Jason will have to maybe fight Medea at the end but ultimately I believe they should end it with a VERY HAPPY ENDING AND HAVE JASON AND… Read more »
Is not that Atlantis sank? Why should Medea helped? Pythagoras and Icarus, perhaps Ariadne and Medea. Would not surprise me.
I think it’s very disappointing that they end the series with a clff hangar ending. The least they can do for fans of the show is provide a suitable ending to the series.
