Well, they’ve finally stanched the bleeding. After hemorrhaging ratings all summer long, Syfy has cancelled its grindhouse-style Blood Drive TV show after just one season. Creator James Roland spilled his guts about the TV show’s fatal prognosis in a blog post published last night.
Airing on Syfy, Blood Drive stars Alan Ritchson, Christina Ochoa, Thomas Dominique, Colin Cunningham, Marama Corlett, and Darren Kent. The dystopian sci-fi TV series centers on Arthur Bailey (Ritchson), one of the last upright cops in Los Angeles, who is pulled into an underground cross-country odyssey with femme fatale Grace D’Argento (Ochoa). But this isn’t just any old race — the cars run on blood.
James Boland Confirms No Season Two of Blood Drive on Syfy
Roland’s blog post on MidnightGrindhouse.com reads:
Aaaaaand … scene.

Dear Bleeders,
Unfortunately, your suspicions are correct. Syfy has canceled Blood Drive after one season.
If this news makes you angry or sad, you’re not alone.
I found out not too long ago, but have been trying to think of a way to tell you guys since I felt it was up to me to let the fans know.
Ultimately I decided to wait until after the final episode aired so the news did not taint your experience. It simply didn’t seem right to burst the bubble so early, especially with how the last episode plays out. We always planned for a season two, but now that the future of the show is uncertain the final scenes seem so much more … final.
If I never get the chance to tell my version of what comes next, I’ll be incredibly sad.
But the good news is, then you can make up your own. The story is yours now, it always was from the first moment it was broadcast. If you love it, take it and play with it in your own imagination.
The future is not set, in our world or the world of Blood Drive.
As to the reasons why the show is cancelled, I’m not privy to all the details. Obviously the ratings were low, but it was also a very noisy show on social media (thanks to you guys!) and a very well-reviewed show with critics as well.
This I do know: despite canceling us, Syfy was the only network with the steel to make the show in the first place.

Blood Drive: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of Blood Drive averaged a 0.14 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 465,000 viewers. Among the 13 Syfy TV shows. we’ve been tracking of late, Blood Drive ranked 10th in terms of its demo numbers and 11th in terms of total audience size, so the cancellation is not a huge surprise.
What do you think? Did you catch season one of the Blood Drive TV series? Did you expect it to be cancelled or renewed for a second season on Syfy? Let us know, below.
I just can’t understand how Sci-fi ( I refuse address them using that idiotic spelling ) can make so many great TV shows, and yet when it comes to movies, produce some of the lamest, God awful, somebody must have put Xanax in the set water cooler, CGI crap that I have ever seen.
Here’s a theory, the fracking industry pressured the company to shut it down because of the bad P.R.
Does anyone else think Slink should have his own spinoff series?
Gutted that it’s cancelled. Have totally loved season 1….. Can’t imagine life without a bit of Slink in it
Stupid ******* TV EXECS – Blood drive was fresh and exciting ! I suppose now we can look forward to more of the unfunny mundane garbage that usually spew-litters our screens.
Love the strong women in this show!
Anothe season! NETFLIX please pick it up.
P.s
Julian Slink will not like this. Cancelled cancel canc ca what?? What the fish!!! Who dare cancel my show? Ill kill to go live worldwide.
I’m so gutted this show has been cancelled I think it was brilliant, Watched blood drive every week without a miss please make a season 2 🙁 so unfair
2 words. More Please.
SyFy is shooting themselves in the foot by cancelling Blood Drive! This and Z-Nation are hands down the greatest things put forth from the company. This is the type of show that while it may not draw huge numbers from its live airing, will undoubtedly be a cult classic that gets viewed and reviewed endlessly by horror fans. I REALLY hope another company picks the show up, and even better let’s James Roland go balls to the wall on what he wants the show to be. Blood Drive is a goldmine that has only had its surface chipped away. There’s… Read more »

This sucks. I absolutely loved everything about Blood Drive. 2 SYFY shows that i love, canned within 1 week. 🙁
I LOVED BLOOD DRIVE !!! I don’t think you (Syfy), should have canceled it !! Of all the networks (except for the premium channels), you guys are the leaders of “strange”. I’m extremely disappointed. You make 6 million “Sharknados” & for whatever reason you don’t pick up Blood Drive… Gotta tell-ya, I’ve been watching less & less of Syfy, since more & more of my shows have been canceled. I personally, see no reason to continue watching your channel. I don’t have a connection to anything you currently have available and I won’t be controlled by a network, who takes… Read more »
