The game is over for Coach Daniels (Ed Marinaro) and his team. There won’t be a fourth season for Blue Mountain State. The Spike TV series has been cancelled.
The comedy series revolves around the on and off-field antics of Pennsylvania college football powerhouse, Blue Mountain State. Coach Daniels has his hands full with the hijynx of his wife (Denise Richards) and students like team captain Thad (Alan Ritchson), quarterback Alex (Darin Brooks), and team mascot Sammy (Chris Romano).
The comedy performed decently for Spike in season one and realized significant gains in season two. The cable channel reported that the series saw a 33% increase with men 18-34, a 50% climb in men 18-24, and a 14% increase with men 18-49.
Total viewership dropped however in season three which kicked off this past September. While some episodes of season two had attracted 1.25 million viewers, at least one episode of season three garnered only half as many viewers. Spike TV aired the last two episodes of the season on November 30th. It turns out they’ll also be the last of the series as well.

Lionsgate, the studio that produces Blue Mountain State, apparently considered shopping the series to other outlets but it didn’t work out. The cast and crew were recently told that season four wouldn’t be happening.
While it’s been reported that the show was cancelled due to a decline in ratings, producer Eric Falconer says differently. He tweeted, “BMS wasn’t cancelled because of a drop in ratings. Season 3 was actually up 20% + in all male demographics vs S2. It was a budget issue.”
As recently as last week, Falconer was still hoping to hear that the show had been picked up for season four. However, it seems that State was actually living on borrowed time with Spike — even during season three. Last August, Spike TV executive VP Sharon Levy told Variety that the cable channel would be focusing on only non-scripted programming for the immediate future.
Of the cancellation news, Ritchson wrote, “Sad day for #BMS fans.” He followed that up with, “I can’t thank the dedicated cast, crew, and fans enough for all the love and support. Portraying Thad was a dream come true. I’m grateful.”
Brooks thanked the cast and crew and “everyone who made this show possible…a HUGE thank you!! Love you guys!!”
What do you think? Are you sorry that Blue Mountain State has been cancelled? Would you follow the show to another channel? Would you be interested in a BMS movie?

Sucks to see this show go so soon. Really sucks that the good shows get canceled to soon while crappy shows seem to go on forever. Average life of a good show seems to be 3-5 years (Heroes, Chuck, Mork & Mindy, My Name Is Earl, Blue Mountain State) while average life of a crappy show seems to go on for 6 years plus until they’re tired of cashing the checks (One Tree Hill for example has had 9 seasons, how? who knows). Spike TV should have just been glad they actually had a tv show people watched. Other than… Read more »
i only caught the last two seasons with denise richards and they were funny as hell. This is the show we all wish our college was like.it was a great satire parody of a college football team.Spike should have let them have a series finale.I wish this show was on FX.
one of the funniest shows i have ever watched! very bleak to see it not go on with season 4! hope someone can make it work out, no matter what channel its on, ill watch it. peace
I can’t tell you how many of my friends i have converted into fans of this show by getting them to watch an episode or two. Reality shows suck, and most of the sitcoms on are doing the same storylines over and and over. This is one of the last shows i could watch when i wanted to laugh. Here’s hoping Spike reconsiders, or another station picks them up.
There’s got to b a way to bring it back… I love this show… its fricking awesome!!!!!!
I don’t care what Chanel its on I’ll watch it and yes make a movie too we need to know what happens to Alex and the rest of the team
If they don’t BMS back Spike will have hell to pay….
BRING IT BACK I NEED IT.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring it back i dont care what station its on i just need my addiction back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I would absolutely follow the show wherever it went…it was one of the funniest and most original comedies around..standing toe-totoe with Its always sunny in philadelphia and Louie!
best comedy i’ve seen in the past 4 years, i was hoping to see more of this show
YES!!! I would definitely follow BMS to another station…. planet… galaxy! It is by far the best show created, great comedy which explains true(slightly exaggerated) events that transpire in college, and for those just out or that have been out of college for some years take a trip down memory lane to the good ole’ days. Please….. I BEG YOU…. keep BMS going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Disapointing that season 4 has been cancelled it was one of the last comedies on tv that make you laugh cause you might remember a few nights or college days like that
I’m going to miss the show, I would have liked to have seen Alex’s senior year and see if he went on to the pros or not.
i hate the last question about the movie, no matter how much people comment on this it wont happen. i would love to see a season 4, i followed that show religiously and to only have three seasons, thats BS!!!!
