Are you losing yourself in the drama, during the first season of the Castaways TV show on ABC? As we all know, the Nielsen ratings typically play a big role in determining whether a TV show like Castaways is cancelled or renewed for season two. Unfortunately, most of us do not live in Nielsen households. Because many viewers feel frustration when their viewing habits and opinions aren’t considered, we’d like to offer you the chance to rate all of the season one episodes of Castaways below. *Status update below.
An ABC reality TV series from Grant Kahler, Castaways aims to test the “human need for companionship under extreme circumstances.” The new series, with a premise that feels like a mashup of Survivor and Lost, follows real people who have been dropped off, each seemingly alone, to survive on small Indonesian islands. While they don’t know it, along the way, each will learn there are “others” like them nearby. The series also includes flashbacks to the participants’ pre-island lives.
What do you think? Which season one episodes of the Castaways TV series do you rate as wonderful, terrible, or somewhere between? Should ABC cancel or renew Castaways for a second season? Don’t forget to vote, and share your thoughts, below.
*Status update: The series last aired in September 2018 and there’s been no renewal news more than a year later. It’s presumed to be cancelled.
Oh, also my favorite was Robbie. I’ve read some about the change this has made in his life. Running a triathlon! For real? It would be good to do a show about what the contestants are doing now and how the show affected them long term.
Really liked this show! More realistic! I’ve watched almost every season of Survivor, and love the competitions, but seeing how people try or don’t try to survive is interesting. Matt seemed to be feeling that the other two were leaving him out, but they acted like he didn’t participate. We only see a small clip of what was going on. When the two moved to Matts old camp, they seemed to have their eyes opened more, then made the comment that they didn’t want someone going it alone out there, when they just had no problem parting ways with Matt.… Read more »
I loved this show. I myself have lost my parents when I was only 25 years old. While I continued to raise my family and cared for my 90 years old grandmother who was upset that her headstone reading 1918 – 19. Needless to say, she lived into the millennium. My marriage failed and my daughters believe I am evil. My oldest daughter is married and the Mother Of The Bride was not invited. Prior My sister became ill, passing away six years ago from breast cancer just like my mother. Betsy (my sister) was 51 and my mother 61… Read more »
I absolutely loved this show!! This is by far the best show out there. Everyone can relate to the characters and their struggles. Plus it’s one of a few reality shows I’m not ashamed to watch, even in front of my children.
Can you please tell me how we can be apart of the next season?
Loved this show! It’s better than Survivor or Naked and Afraid. This show portrays real people, real struggles, real life! The struggles are real for us all. The journals and individual stories make this show relatable to everyone. This show had a profound effect on me and my life!
I loved… LOVED. did I say LOVED this series!!!!!
The transformation, humanity, humility, greatness that exists within all of us when given time to sit with ones self, in nature, without distractions, excuses, to experience my “is”, hear what we stopped listening for, honor the pulse of ones being….
To discover or rekindle what the essence of living is
…. our NET WORTH!!!!
I would love to be a participant … honesrly!
thank you for creating CASTAWAYS

One thing keeps popping up in my mind and that is the fact that these people are not truly “alone”. There seems to be an abundance of camera men and camera crew members and they are right there next to these people, filming their every move, filming their discussions, even filming their swims in the water as they travel from islet to islet IDK – just seems very scripted to me. When that girl’s leg became really infected, it didn’t appear that anyone from the show stepped in and told her that she needed to get some professional medical treatment.… Read more »
The show seems fake/scripted. The reason I feel that way is they repeatedly are showing flashbacks of the castaways back in their daily lives, having deep personal moments with their families. How did they get this footage? It all seems a bit too convenient especially since the flashbacks and their current time on the island seem to have common themes. This can only be achieved if someone’s scripting the show. Then they filmed all those moments with their families accordingly. I would have preferred an actual reality show where people were abandoned and had to struggle to survive, without all… Read more »
I agree with you totally, I thought the same thing, the back stories with their familys are very detailed, the time line isn’t working well for me either, Kinzie and Rob, were at day 20 something last night, and don’t seem to be getting food, but that’s along time to go with out. There’s just something about this show that isn’t ringing true for me
I couldn’t wait for this show to come on but after the first episode I thought what a waste of an hour. I realize that these people are not “professional survivor” but give me a break. 2 days on the island and all they did was complain and complain. They had plenty of “stuff” found all over the place but they still complained about everything. This is definitely scripted going back and forth about their personal lives They should all go home and put this show out of it’s misery
I absolutely LOVE this show. I am enjoying the dynamics of the cast, everything they go thru makes me grateful for what I have in my own world. It makes me think about how I might react if I were in their positions. Would I have done what they have done in their given situation? Would I have thought about things like they do? How would I have felt? I am REALLY, really enjoying this show! I really hope it is picked up for next season. This show makes you THINK, (IF you allow it to, of course!) I am… Read more »
BETTER THAN “THIS IS US” ! By far one of the best shows ever on tv . We love that there is nobody but the castaways . Brilliant idea ! ABC needs to advertise this show and give it a better time slot . My wife and me have seen every episode . For someone to just begin watching the show they would not get as much out of it as those of us that watch every episode . Show should be given a second chance in a better time slot instead of being put opposite shows that have been… Read more »
I also enjoyed this show a lot. The time slot could have been better to give it a chance tho. I really disliked how Sawyer Brown and Richard Rogers treated Matt Jaskol. They were down right mean. I would have had a hard time being nice to them the way Matt was in the finale. It just goes to show who was the bigger man. It was nice to see that the two of them realised what douces they had been and tried to make amends for it.
I want to know what do the castaways get if they complete the mission and stay until they’re rescued. Surely they get something to compensate them, or is it just the satisfaction of completing such a hard task. Just wondering couldn’t find that info anywhere. Thank you
Love this show. Hope they get some money how’s does one know about show like this is a puzzle to me
show was rather slow to start. feels staged and not sure if it will be on season 2.
Thumbs down on this show. It looked staged going from the island to personal stories. It reminded me of that show where viewers thought it was a reality show but it turned out to be scripted. Alone is a much better show.
Love the show. Hated the music. It was putting all of us to sleep.
