CBS is planning to switch a couple of their freshman dramas around for midseason. Blue Bloods, which currently airs on Friday nights at 10pm, will move to Wednesdays at 10pm beginning January 19th. The Defenders will shift from Wednesdays at 10pm to Fridays at 8pm beginning February 4th (filling cancelled Medium’s timeslot).
On Friday nights, Blue Bloods has been averaging a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 11.22 million viewers. While that’s a lot of total viewers, the demo numbers are about what Numb3rs was averaging last season, before CBS cancelled it. The move to Wednesday nights will likely show the network whether or not the series is capable of doing better in the demo department. It’ll have four weeks in the timeslot before heading back to Fridays at 10pm on February 11th. Spin-off Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior takes over the Wednesday night slot on February 16th.
Things haven’t been looking too good for The Defenders and the move to Friday nights isn’t exactly a vote of confidence. You may recall that CBS ordered just five additional episodes in October, bringing the first season total to just 18 installments.
Defenders has averaged a 2.2 in the 18-49 demo and 10.02 million total viewers. It premiered at a 2.9 rating and has fallen as low as a 1.8 in the demo. Of CBS’ 18 scripted series, it currently ranks 15th, not far above Blue Bloods which has already been airing on little-watched Fridays.
What do you think? Will this move help or hurt these shows’ chances for season two? What do you think the end result will be?
PLEASE keep Defenders and Blue Blood. We especially like the Defenders for the characters and wit. It is clean, no ribald jokes, and good entertainment. CBS must be lacking in creative brainpower and writers to come up with the drivel of the reality shows. Those people addicted to reality shows need to get a life!
CBS Please keep the Defenders. Get rid of reality TV shows. I am under 49 years of age,and I am getting tired of reality TV show. Every Wednesday night I am looking forward watching Jim and Jerry playing great TV. Keep the show.
Don’t cancel either show. Both are good tv. Networks always cancels good adult shows. This day and age kids (young adults) will always tune in to reality drama as long as it is aired on tv.
Blue Bloods is great! It’s great they are moving it to Wednesdays. However, why on earth are they moving it back to Fridays in February? Time slot hopping is the kiss of death for a television series and the network is just setting the show up to struggle. Bad idea and not fair to the viewers.
My husband and I LOVE BOTH of these shows and will watch them whenever they are aired. I don’t like the way networks throw the shows around to try and knock another networks good show off……….let them all live! There are too many animated silly shows, fake reality type shows, and “wanna be” a star shows. I really hope that BOTH of these shows make it………..true entertainment.
The biggest problem with Defenders and Blue Bloods is that CBS being a typical network starts jacking around these shows and change the time slots and then we can’t find them and support good TV. Just like moving CSI Miami to Sundays – it doesn’t play everytime with NFL football interfering with scheduling. You messed with CSI-NY to Fridays instead of leaving it on Wednesdays. Quit moving these shows around so that we can find them and live our lives around a set schedule!
KEEP DEFENDERS, BLUE BLOOD AND CSI MIAMI and get rid of the reality junk!!!
Both Blue Blood and Defenders are great shows. These two are we have seen in a long time. I do not what those reality shows! They are the worst shows to be put on TV. Please do not cancel either one.
We love The Defenders at our house and would be so disappointed if it was cancelled. We are not too happy with the move to Friday but will definitely still watch it. I agree with the other comments that there is too much reality tv and shows like The Defenders are a breath of fresh air!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE The Defenders!!!!!!! Please dont cancel it!!
Blue Bloods is a great show! We DVR each episode! That being said, if CBS wanted Tom Selleck for a series, why not develop Jesse Stone into a series?! Now THAT would have been a KEEPER! If the primetime networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX) wonder why their ratings are so dismal, they should add up the number of reality-based shows they have. Reality TV is a bunch of poo! B O R I N G…! What are the demographics on those? FRAT BRATS? Where do they get these people and I hope they are all paid a butt-load of money… Read more »
Keep them both, they are 2 of the best shows we have seen for years. We know its cheap to make all of these so called reality shows but that is why we dont watch network tv anymore and will not watch any more of those shows.
BLUE BLOODS IS VERY GREAT & AWESOME SHOW & I WOULD WATCH IT ANY DAY OR TIME!!! PLEASE DON’T CANCEL IT!!! IT IS TRULY ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS ON TV IN A WHILE!! MUCH BETTER THAN A LOT OF TRASH THAT’S ON TV THESE DAYS!
welove bluebloods!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
The Defenders & Blue Bloods, 2 of the best this season, keep them both and get rid of reality trash
We REALLY like Blue Bloods and would watch it whatever night it is on.
The same goes for The Defenders.
The biggest problem with programing is most shows are not given time to develope a following.
The second biggest problem is the waste of TV time with cartoon shows.
