CBS is planning to switch a couple of their freshman dramas around for midseason. Blue Bloods, which currently airs on Friday nights at 10pm, will move to Wednesdays at 10pm beginning January 19th. The Defenders will shift from Wednesdays at 10pm to Fridays at 8pm beginning February 4th (filling cancelled Medium’s timeslot).
On Friday nights, Blue Bloods has been averaging a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 11.22 million viewers. While that’s a lot of total viewers, the demo numbers are about what Numb3rs was averaging last season, before CBS cancelled it. The move to Wednesday nights will likely show the network whether or not the series is capable of doing better in the demo department. It’ll have four weeks in the timeslot before heading back to Fridays at 10pm on February 11th. Spin-off Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior takes over the Wednesday night slot on February 16th.
Things haven’t been looking too good for The Defenders and the move to Friday nights isn’t exactly a vote of confidence. You may recall that CBS ordered just five additional episodes in October, bringing the first season total to just 18 installments.
Defenders has averaged a 2.2 in the 18-49 demo and 10.02 million total viewers. It premiered at a 2.9 rating and has fallen as low as a 1.8 in the demo. Of CBS’ 18 scripted series, it currently ranks 15th, not far above Blue Bloods which has already been airing on little-watched Fridays.
What do you think? Will this move help or hurt these shows’ chances for season two? What do you think the end result will be?
KEEP THE DEFENDERS, DUMP BLUE BLOODS
LOVE THE DEFENDERS…GIVE IT A CHANCE…RIGHT AFTER CRIMINAL MINDS IS PERFECT !!!!
I LOVE both of these shows!! And will be watching cbs no matter what night they are on! Get rid of either of them, I will not be the happiest, but I’m sure nbc or abc will find something for those time slots.
Keep The Defenders, and dump Blue Bloods. Enough said.
My husband and I sit together to watch Defenders. He turned me on to it. Don’t cancel it. I suppose I should stop watching tv.
I really like both The Defenders and Blue Bloods, but when I see the scheduling changed, I feel like a death knell has sounded. CBS, please don’t cancel either show. I abhor reality shows and vulgar comedies.
I love “The Defenders”, and I’ll happily follow them to Fridays. As for the move to Friday being a bad sign: does anyone remember the X Files? People would actually stay home on Fridays just to watch that show. CSI New York and The Defenders sounds great for Friday.
I too would like to know how the networks come about getting their “numbers” just like the poster above me. It seems that they always cancel the shows that we think are the best ones. My husband and I don’t like reality shows either that is why we NEVER watch that other network!!!! And why CBS is our favorite network!!! Why won’t they listen to us about these shows!!! Hello??? Are you out there????
I love both shows, The Defenders and Blue Bloods! Look forward to watching them both each week! Hope neither of them is cancelled! CBS has THE BEST line up on TV. My husband and I both hope that they don’t go messing around with it too much. 🙁
i agree with Kari – my husband and i love both blue bloods and the defenders and hope they both stay on the air. With our dvr we can watch them no matter what hole they get stuck in.
It’s a great show–like the other comment, I don’t care when it is on as long as it stays on. They don’t always win and that’s real life.
I will say I am thrilled that White Collar Crime is being returned !! I still wish someone would tell me how to contact the networks directly and tell them what you like…I don’t think the ratings they get tell the complete story of what a lot of viewers want to see.
How do you let the networks know what you like? Everytime there is a new good show is doesn’t seem to last. I hate reality TV and stupid comedy. I love The Defenders, Blue Bloods, The Good Wife, CSI NY, NCIS, Hawaii 5 0 and House. I thought Raising the Bar was terrific and Medium has always been at the very top of my list. Have I been sent here from another planet with my tv tastes? I like watching shows that entertain but have substance and maybe make you think.
LOVE Defenders!!
The Defenders is another favorite of mine
I don’t care when they air it as long as they don’t cancell it.
Come on networks – listen to your viewers – high rating don’t
necessarily mean a whole lot as long as the viewing audience is
happy.
Once you start moving the shows around, people loose track of them. After a while they just give up looking for them. I wish the network would leave well enough alone. I think both shows are great.
