Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
Bring Cedar Cove back!!!! It is refreshing, quality, artistic television.
i am very disappointed that hallmark will not renew the series. It was a very good show and i enjoyed it very very much. I loved cedar cove and andie and dylan but am very unhappy with Hallmark channel
I think that they can and should continue this show. There is plenty of room for character and plot development and that cancelling this was a big mistake
I am very disappointed with Hallmark’s decision to cancel Cedar Cove.
What a shame to put an end to such a great show with a good following. Bad decision!!
Cedar Cove was an inspiration and a delightful change from all the violence and stupid comedy that currently appears of television. It offered hope for the public for clean and enjoyable entertainment. It visualized the beauty of the Northwestern part of America and gave us all a beautiful view of life. I certainly hope this show will be continued somewhere.
I missed the 9/26 finale. Is there any way to find it? Loved the show and will not be watching the Hallmark channel any more. Hallmark is not a high volume channel. It had shows that were watched by a small segment of the population who enjoyed high quality, low violence entertainment. Big mistake. Hallmark is on its way out. Wouldn’t be surprised if it gets bought and “retooled.” Sad
I agree with you 100%. Cedar Cove was my favorite show. I will not be watching the Hallmark channel anymore either! Maybe they will wise up when they discover they’re losing viewers because of their bad decisions like this one. So sad!!!
I am very sorry to see Cedar Cove cancelled especially without warning. We should have had some resolution for the fans. It makes me wonder if the Hallmark Channel is so big and popukar now that they dint care about their fans feelings.
Just a shame a great show like this was cancelled. I looked forward to watching this show every week. This was one of my favorite series of books. I think Hallmark needs to rethink their decision.
I hate to see this series cancelled. I really looked forward to watching it.
I loved cedar Cove and wat to see it returned for more seasons. Of the three seasons, I felt that season two – storyline wise – was not as good as one and three. That may be one of the reasons the ratings declined. Also, it was frustrating to become invested in the show and its characters, only to have the 12 weeks end and be forced to wait another 9-10 months to see what happens. Doing a twice-a-year season would have been better. I thought the choice of people to portray the various characters was outstanding-everyone did a remarkable… Read more »
I loved Cedar Cove, cannot believe they cancelled it! It was so nice to sit and relax to a show that I could actually watch with my young daughter! It was a clean and wholesome show, which is very hard to find anymore.
Loved this show. All the great shows get the axe!
Can’t believe it. Just adore Ms. Niven 🙂
Why was it cancelled? Was it because the writers were veering too far from Debbie Macomber’s original books? Was it salary? There are a lot of unanswered questions here. Very disappointed.
No, No, No! What is Hallmark Channel doing???? Cedar Cove is my favorite show on TV! It had heart and soul and a following! Very disappointed, Thought Hallmark Channel was different, guess not.
I agree it’s really poor form to have so many viewers that were enjoying the series and invested so much of their time in it to have this wonderful and extremely well-acted series left unfinished. That is so wrong! Shame on Hallmark!
