Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
It was refreshing to see a great clean show like Cedar Cove that so many watched….even with short seasons and few episodes. I definitely think it should be continued because this type show is so rare….but I understand it is all the bottom dollar….they should consider…it’s audience is largely a stable population with buying power (good reason for advertisers to choose it). If this is Hallmarks way of doing things….hook us and then drop it without tying up loose ends….I will not be watching any future series. It’s irritating. I’ll just read a book.
The least you could do is tell us whether or not Olivia stays with Jack. Appears to me that since the show was cancelled, before it ended, that your know the answer to this. You could at least have the decency to let us know the rest of the story via this site.
I think it’s awful when a series is cancelled abruptly with story endings left unfinished. It’s sort of insulting to loyal viewers who have followed the series all along. At the very least, a special episode or two should be aired which gives the viewers closure. It was a beautiful show. The location was perfect. I looked forward to watching it and I’m disappointed that it has been cancelled. Cedar Cove was a treat for the eyes and a welcome break from the zombie parades and reality shows aired on television all day long.
Chesapeake shores is not as good. I just don’t watch hallmark series now. Please bring back cedar cove
I loved the series. Wish it wasn’t canceled. Please bring it back.
I just finished watching Cedar Cove on Netflix. Loved it right up until the last scene. It’s not too late for Hallmark to do a movie that ties up all of the loose ends.
I have been waiting for this series to return. While I do like Chesapeke Shores and Where The Heart Is, I wanted to continue on with the Cedar Cove story. You should reconsider and bring it back or at least follow up with a movie to tie up loose ends. I hate it when networks start series then just leave us viewers hanging. The drop in ratings was not that bad. Very, very disappointed!
Just completed watching all the episodes of this show only to find it has ended mid-relationship with all the characters I’ve been following. What a huge disappointment to not have closure
So sad that you cancelled Cedar Cove. Great three seasons. I viewed all three seasons on Netflix in one month. So many unsolved endings . I hope you can at least create a follow up movie to end the show in a positive manner. Thank you
It is almost criminal for a network to end a series with cliffhangers so that loyal viewers are unable to find closure with the characters and storylines they’ve followed and loved. Hallmark could have acted responsibly and at least done a 2-hour movie to tie up all the loose ends just for the people who cherish Hallmark productions.
So sad to see this show was cancelled. With all the violence, trash and inappropriate shows on tv this was a show that was a pleasure to watch. Loved loved loved this series and wish Hallmark would consider bringing it back if not for the ratings for the loyal fans to have closure.
I have missed Cedar Cove and got on computer to see if it was coming back or had officially been cancelled. I am so disappointed to find it is gone!!!! I watched every season and loved the story lines and the scenery in this beautiful little quaint town. Felt like a get away every episode. There is so much trash on the TV! Why would Hallmark decide to cancel such a great show, especially with so many questions in the plot. Very disappointing to leave us hanging. Loved the characters and the actors and actresses. Please bring it back and… Read more »
Very disappointed that the show was canceled…
Absolutely disappointed at Hallmark canceled the Cedar Cove series. It was so delightful. Loved every episode. Please bring it back!
Great series we just watched on netfix. Yes there should be more.
Cancelling the show before revealing the ending encourages you not to watch further Hallmark series.
