Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
As one of the only channels with decent shows it is sad that Ceadar Cove will not be coming back.. I really wish there was some way to bring it back.
I loved Cedar Cove. I thought it had a great following and can’t believe they would cancel one of my favorite series.
OMGosh, Boo & Hiss to cancelling such a fab show like Cedar Cove! How sad it is to leave us all high and dry before a conclusion could be given for season 3. No point (me thinks now) buying a DVD copy for my collection as it would just be a sorry reminder of how such a sweet story came to such a unfilling end. So sad that a girl has to wait for several seasons of a show to be aired before she even thinks about purchasing a hard copy for fear of exactly this outcome…… a great show… Read more »
Sad it ended. Please consider a movie to give closure. Over a million people hanging…..think about the fans……….
I would love to see more shows. My husband and I rented Season 3 from the Licking County Library because we had problems with the DVR and missed most of season 3. We don’t watch much together but enjoyed this program.
I hate to see this series end. I love the books, and the tv series was so enjoyable. With all of the awful shows and violence in tv today, I so enjoyed escaping to Cedar Cove! I wish they would bring it back or at least wrap up the loose ends.
I loved Cedar Cove and watched every episode from the first episode through the last one. I was eagerly awaiting its return this year.It was good clean TV which is rare these days.I don’t like the fact that it has been cancelled, but if it has to be cancelled, the least that you could do would be to provide a final episode or epilogue that would draw closure to all the things left hanging for Season 4. If you won’t consider bringing it back for the large number of viewers who watched it, please consider something that would provide some closure.… Read more »
I am very disappointed that Cedar Cove is not returning for another season. The last season was ended with many unanswered questions and I have been waiting all year for its return. Please consider the 1.67 million viewers that were watching the show and bring it back for another season.
Sorry cedar cove is not returning. It was a great show. Maybe a sequa will be planned to answer our questions.
How sad to know that Cedar Cove is not being renewed. I love watching Cedar Cove, nice to have wholesome family shows that Hallmark produces. Actually I’m reading one of the Cedar Cove books now. Thanks Hallmark for introducing me to Cedar Cove. I hope you will reconsider putting Cedar Cove back on. My daughter (35) & I (60) loved discussing the show.
i am so disappointed that cedar cove was cancelled. couldnt a movie be made that would tie up the stories to give it closure
This makes me very sad!. I always looked forward to watching the show and was so happy when season 4 was going to run. 1.67 million viewers is still an incredible number of viewers. We need more shows with class and morals like Cedar Cove on TV, not this other trash.
Please, I beg of you to bring back the series back. It is so refreshing and so true to life. Each week I could not wait for the next show to air. Please at least have an ending in season and not leave me hanging
I really enjoyed the beautiful scenery as well as the sweet storylines. Am so disappointed there will be no Season 4!
I love this show. Was such a fault show. With all this reality tv. It was finally something I could watch with my 10 year old daughter without a worry of sex, bad language etc. Very very disappointed. I say put on season 4 and get rid of the other crap parents have to make sure their children can not watch!
