Fans won’t be seeing what happens to Olivia Lockhart in a fourth season of Cedar Cove. Hallmark Channel has cancelled their first scripted TV show after three seasons and 36 episodes.
Cedar Cove revolves around Olive (Andie MacDowell), a single mother from a small seaside community who’s also a municipal court judge. Olivia does her best to balance her career with family and finding love — all the while doing her best to care for the township she calls home. The rest of the cast includes Dylan Neal, Teryl Rothery, Sarah Smyth, Colin Ferguson, Bruce Boxleitner, Barbara Niven, Brennan Elliot, Corey Sevier, Sebastian Spence, Tom Stevens, Jesse Hutch, Jesse Moss, Emily Tennant, and Timothy Webber.
Hallmark’s first scripted TV series debuted in July 2013 to 2.62 million viewers. Though the TV show lasted three seasons, the ratings dropped each year. The first season of Cedar Cove averaged about two million viewers. The second season averaged 1.87 million and the third season averaged 1.67 million.
The cable channel announced the cancellation on their Facebook page. Here’s the statement:
Cedar Cove was the first series launched on Hallmark Channel, and we are incredibly proud of the exquisitely beautiful three season arc it delivered. It was an honor to bring to life the kindness, consideration and courage of this story that Debbie Macomber envisioned. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the extraordinary cast, writers, artists and designers — especially Andie MacDowell, executive producer and show runner Sue Tenney, and of course, Debbie Macomber. It is a privilege to continue a creative working relationship with the incredible talents associated with this series — both in front of and behind the camera – for upcoming projects on Hallmark Channel USA and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.
That was followed up by:
While Cedar Cove won’t be returning for Season 4, our beloved #CedarCove cast are all still part of the family! You’ll see Andie MacDowell produce & star in “The Beach House” based on the novel by Mary Alice Monroe. “Debbie Macomber’s Dashing Through the Snow” premieres 12/12 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. You’ll see Barbara Niven star with Alison Sweeney in the next installment of #MurderSheBaked: A Plum Pudding Mystery” premiering 11/22 also on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. And you’ll see Brennan Elliott star with Mariah Carey & Lacey Chabert in the premiere of #AChristmasMelody Dec 19th on Hallmark Channel USA!
The last episode of Cedar Cove aired on September 26th and ended with lots of unanswered questions.
What do you think? Do you like the Cedar Cove TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fourth season? Would you like to see the characters return someday?
I just googled Cedar Cove and learned it has been cancelled…..I just can’t understand this….it was a great show and at the acting was superb! Please give it another chance….very disappointed with Hallmark
So sad….it was a favorite of mine…….
Please bring back a finale to keep all of us happy! I loved this show and I am so disappointed that is has been canceled. It would be satisfying to end this show where we could keep fond memories of it. Leaving it as you have now is such a waste!
I do not think it should have been cancelled…it was a great show.. I looked forward to watching it….Please bring it back.
I can’t believe cedar cove has been cancelled. I so looked forward to it coming back.
The series should not have been cancelled without an ending. My Mother is so disappointed along with my sisters and myself. Please reconsider a conclusion.
The series should not have been cancelled. The series should have stayed focus on the primary characters. It introduced too many characters like the estranged and adopted daughter, the private investigator etc, which got boring and lame, I think if it stayed with the primary characters, love interests and personal dramas it would have held the audience. Too much at once, with no real substance or interest killed the ratings. Poor writing.
We have been waiting for the new season of Cedar Cove, so I checked to see when it would start, very disappointed to find that it had been cancelled. Looked forward to watching and would like to see a wrap up of the characters lives and the town.
So disappointed this series was canceled, I loved the characters and the story line. Agree with other comments, at least do a series finale. Disappointed in Hallmark for handling it this way.
I stopped watching Cedar Cove after season two because it was becoming a soap opera. I thought it was suppose to be a show you could watch with your children, but some of the adult content didn’t seem to be kid friendly to me. I guess I thought with Debbie McCrombie’s Christian values you wouldn’t see the living together without marriage. I was disappointed.
Beyond sad
So very disappointed with Hallmark that they have cancelled this super great series. I looked so forward to watching these episodes as i had read the complete book series.
With 1.67 million viewers and still they cancel the series – how very sad this is considering that Hallmark isn’t even a mega huge network station like Fox
Maybe if they made the series more easily àvailable the series would have been more successful
At any rate it would be appreciative if a wrap up episode was done for those who havent read the series
Shame on you Hallmark
It never fails, when I find a show that I really look forward to it gets cancelled. Why do we lose good television? This makes me really sad.
Although the show may have been ready to wind down, I’m not sure all of its audience was. Someone suggested a 2 hour finale movie — perhaps Hallmark might consider this to tie up the loose ends. Even Downton Abbey did that!
I loved Cedar Cove. One of the few shows I would tape and watch faithfully. It would be nice to tie up all the loose ends. Maybe a 2-hour movie to tell us how it all ended???
