The doctor is out. There won’t be a second season of the Complications TV show. USA Network has decided to cancel the drama series after one season of 10 episodes.
Complications follows a disillusioned suburban doctor (Jason O’Mara) who’s still dealing with the emotional effects of his young daughter’s death from cancer. He unexpectedly becomes a vigilante hero when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a 12-year-old boy’s life. The rest of the cast includes Jessica Szohr, Lauren Stamile, Chris Chalk, Beth Riesgraf, and RonReaco Lee.
The series got off to a lackluster start in the ratings in late June with a 0.41 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.91 million viewers. Viewership saw a big drop in week two and remained pretty poor for the rest of the season. The 10 episodes ended up averaging a 0.35 in the demo with 1.44 million.
Except for Suits, all of USA’s existing dramas have been way down year-to-year and none of their new ones have been a hit in the ratings (including Mr. Robot).
Despite Complications’ ratings challenges, USA was still considering bringing the show back for a second season. Deadline reports that execs had secured a four-day extension on the cast contracts while they made their final decision. Execs tried to work out an economically feasable deal with Fox 21 TV Studios for a second season but, in the end, it didn’t happen.
The final episode of Complications aired on August 13th.
What do you think? Did you like the Complications TV show? Do you think that it should have been cancelled? Would you have watched a second season, perhaps on another channel?
THE PROMOTION FOR THIS SHOW WAS ALMOST NON EXISTENT.
THIS SHOW SHOULD BE GIVEN MORE OF A CHANCE.
I like Jason O’Mara. He’s an excellent actor. He can’t seem to find an audience here in America (Terra Nova, Life on Mars, and now Complications). Everything he’s been in here I’ve watched and completely enjoyed. And it doesn’t hurt that he’s gorgeous. However, I found the chemistry completely lacking with most of the cast. The relationship with his nurse cohort was the only one that was semi-believable. Complete lack of sparks with a pale (read milquetoast) and bland wife. Maybe it was meant to be that way, but he had more intensity with Darius (whom I thought was a… Read more »
Hey Kim: I believe what you said is true. It must be the writers as continuity could be better. Overall, I was glued to the TV and the tension just kept building up which takes away from all the details of whether it was written well and how the scenes at times did not fit together. Of course it is Hollywood and being Hollywood, it is not only the writers but producers, directors, and even the editing has a big role on how something will turn out. There is always room for improvement but since the series came out rather… Read more »
Have a few posts about this series. I was glued watching it as well as biting my finger nails. I was devastated when I found out, it will be no more. Of course it is possible that it can return. I hope it will. A good, intelligent series like this one has it all. Certainly it is complicated 🙂 but understandably that is why the name fits.
I can’t believe they cancelled Complications. I LOVED this show. there are not many shows that my husband likes to watch with me but this one he did. Never a dull moment. I was checking to see when it comes back on and saw this 🙁 so upsetting. Its sad they have shows like pretty little liars that run for season after season and basically the show sucks yet they have a good show like this and they cancel it…Please Bring it back!!!
This was a great show you need it back on.
This was a great show! It should definitely be brought back on television. A good friend told me about it and that is how I originally heard about. They had a great cast of actors and actresses. If it was advertised a bit better, alot more people would have watched it. I am greatly disappointed that it is not coming back on television. That was a big mistake.
Please reconsider and RENEW Complications. The show is amazing. There is not a dull moment!!! I was just looking up when Season 2 was going to start when I saw the cancellation notice. Extremely disappointed!!!
I have been waiting for season two I love this this show the greatest group of actors. Its totally different from all the other unbelievable junk like walking dead…Really!!!!. Our family stopped everything when complications came on Thursday night. Please give it another try.. Love love love this show
I was very disappointed to find out Complications had been cancelled. This was one of the few shows I actually enjoyed watching. I suppose that unless it is about zombies or some silly reality show most people now don’t want to watch it. I would love to see it brought back.
One can like the Walking Dead and Complications at the same time. I agree with you about the stupid reality shows, though. Andrew Lincoln is an excellent actor as well. I enjoy(ed) both shows.
Complications was such a good show; very disappointed it’s been cancelled. I’d love to see it picked up by another network.
I thought this show ( Complications) was a great show..nothing weird..mixed with drama and the funny comments with the nurse working with him covering their track. Sick of cable reality shows..need more dramas such as this.
I really was looking forward for season 2 please bring back COMPLICATION
No bring it back I loved this show it was a great show!!!!!!!
Me and my husband LOVED complications. I actually set my work schedule around it to make sure me and my husband were home ready to watch it together. Other than Law and Order SVU, I don’t normally get into new shows. Complications caught my eye from episode one and it was amazing. Very disappointed that there isn’t going to be a season 2. Yes I would watch it on a different channel if it came back. I LOVE COMPLICATIONS! Please contact me if needed. 931-279-1810
I was really looking forward to the next season, but honestly found the show by mistake. Maybe it was the promoting of the show that doomed it.
