The CW has announced their upcoming season and there aren’t too many surprises. Actually, the upcoming season will look quite similar to the current one.
Coming back next fall are America’s Next Top Model, Everybody Hates Chris, The Game, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Smallville, and Supernatural. Reaper will return midseason with 13 episodes.
The network’s new shows include the spin-off of Beverly Hills, 90210 which is named simply 90210, a drama called Surviving the Filthy Rich, and a new Tyra Banks-produced reality show titled Stylista.
Those who won’t be back include…
Aliens in America — This sitcom just never found an audience, despite being loved by critics. The last episode is set for Sunday, May 18th.
Beauty and the Geek — Viewership for the reality show has been falling for some time but really took a dip this time around. It may be back some day but, for now, the series finale will air tonight.
Farmer Wants a Wife — This comedy reality series has been on the air for three weeks and has done quite poorly in the ratings. Eight episodes are planned with the last one scheduled for June 25th. It won’t be back next season. (7-08 Update: The ratings for some of the later episodes were pretty good — compared to other CW shows — so the series could possibly return at some point).
Friday Night Smackdown! — The wrestling show moves to MyNetworkTV this fall. It may not fit with CW’s image but you can bet they’re going to miss the show’s viewers.
Life is Wild — The ratings were terrible and quietly faded into the sunset. All 13 episodes have aired with the last one being shown on February 3rd.
Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants — This silly reality show was crucified by critics and largely ignored by viewers. The last episode aired on January 30th.
Pussycat Dolls Presents — The reality series tthat was so popular that it played a part in the cancellation of Veronica Mars in 2007 was essentially ignored by viewers this time around. Season two concluded on April 23rd.

Girlfriends — After the writers strike, the network opted not to put the long-running sitcom back into production to give it a fitting series finale. A clip show was considered but isn’t likely to happen now. The final episode aired on February 11th. Stay tuned!
My issue is simply this, even if you elect not to renew a show, I believe you owe it to the loyal viewers to do a series finale. Girlfriends was one of my all time favorites and It is very disappointing just have the show go away with no ending. I think that’s poor judgement.
I AM A 48 YEAR OLD GRANDMOTHER RAISING MY 10 YEAR OLD GRANDSON.
I THINK IN THIS DAY & TIME OF OUR DEPRESSING REALITY THE NETWORKS SHOULD SHOW OUR YOUTH MORE ABOUT THE VALUES AND VIRTUES OF THE PAST THAT HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN INSTEAD OF THIS GARBAGE THAT TEACHES NOTHING BUT HOW TO BUILD A BOMB OR HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER OR STEALING
dear sir smackdown is the number one on the wbmn in macon so cox cable bettercarry smackdown on friday night if don’t they lose 500 wrestling fan on friday night bring back smackdown to wbmn
I’m surprised ANY new shows would want to deal wtih the CW. Reba was their #1 comedy two years ago, and they canned it b/c of demographics. That show certainly deserved a back-9 to give the final season some REAL closure. I’ve never watched Girlfriends, but I don’t doubt that the CW didn’t allow the fans of the show to get some genuine closure with the series. I watch only one CW show now; Smallville. And luckily for me that show airs on a different channel so I don’t have to contribute to the CW’s ratings. Dawn Ostroff is a… Read more »
CW seems like a crappy network to do business with. I’m NOT impressed. If I had
a show to sell, it would NOT be to them. They are just so disrespectful to everyone- the people who work for them and the viewers. I barely have a reason to watch them anymore. I like Everybody Hates Chris and Reaper but no proper season ending to Girlfriends after receiving a barely acceptable season seven and finale to Gilmore Girls and I’m ready to give up on CW. I spend money Sweeties.
GIVE THE VIEWER WHAT WE WANT A PROPER ENDING. THATS WRONG THE WAY U TREAT YOUR VIEWER.
[…] I just shared…I never watched the show never ever heard but to help you Farmer Wants a Wife — This comedy reality series has been on the air for three weeks and has done quite poorly in the ratings. It is a sad, sad shame that the network felt it improper to even end the Girlfriends season, and will not be renewing the season contract. Instead they want to run a spin-off of an old 80s show that died off for a reason. They obviously do not really want ratings and have no compassion iover what they may think that the viewrs would want. Who doesn’t see a problem with the scenario???
Well I like Gossip Girl glad that’s staying..
I loved the show Girlfriends it just was in a bad time slot so I never got to see it but if it’s ever on dvd I am sure to buy that.. sorry to see that go it was a great show..
