Last October, we reported on early plans by Warner Bros. to do a Dallas: The Next Generation-style show for sister company TNT. The rumor was that the new Dallas series would focus on the offspring of some of the original main cast — John Ross III, the son of J.R. (Larry Hagman) and Sue Ellen (Linda Gray), and Christopher, the adopted son of Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and Pam (Victoria Principal).
Hagman, Gray and Duffy had reportedly been contacted to see if they’d be interested in taking part (Principal’s character was in an accident and her face was dramatically altered by plastic surgery). Hagman said that he’d be open to it but his interest really would depend on the quality script. And, not surprisingly, that was the last we heard of it. Projects like this often fall by the wayside.
Today, TNT announced plans to shoot a pilot for a new Dallas series. Here’s the info from the press release:
Dallas: Executive producer Cynthia Cidre, writer of the acclaimed film The Mambo Kings and creator/executive producer of the TV series Cane, has crafted an update of the long-running series about the Ewings of Southfork, whose betrayals, jealousies and passions have made them famous.
The story focuses on the offspring of bitter rivals and brothers JR and Bobby Ewing, who clash over the future of the Ewing dynasty while the fate of Southfork itself weighs in the balance. This project, based upon the iconic series created by David Jacobs, comes to TNT from Warner Horizon Television.
It’s unknown what ages the next generation will be in this new incarnation or if Omri Katz, the actor who played John Ross III for seven seasons and in the reunion movie, will be considered. He’s now 34 and, based on his IMDB resume, hasn’t been very active in the business for awhile.
What do you think? Are you interested in seeing a continuation of the Dallas series or should they do a reboot instead (ala CBS’ upcoming Hawaii Five-0)?
Absolutley, I would love to see the old cast back. They all look great today and they all should be back on Southfork. Please bring it back
Thanks
Nina
I am so looking forward to this event…..I loved Dallas and never missed a show! Make sure that Sue Ellen, J.R., Bobby and Pam are included, what would the show be without at least a cameo appearance of them every now and then. I have been waiting for this to happen for about fifteen years – Kudos to TNT – this will be a sure winner…….
Wasn’t that Michael Corleone from The Godfather, who said that, quoting his father? Regardless, I’d LOVE to see Dallas again! I hope they do a quality job, though. Hawaii Five-O, even though different stars, is a quality re-boot.
HELL YES!! And remember. “Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies even closer.” J.R. EWING
I would LOVE to see this happen! I loved “Dallas” when it originally aired and am enjoying the DVDs as well. I’ve always thought they should continue it with the kids at some point. And with TNT involved, it should be pretty good. They do quality work.
it would need to have a fair number of original cast members appearing for me to watch. The old shows were so much better than the garbage that makes up primetime today.
BRING IT ON CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!AWSOME
Would love to see it.
i would be so glad if dallas would return to tv!!!!!!!!!! i have all the orignal tv series on dvd!!
Next generation definately! Tired of these remakes that just prove the orignal is always better so instead of ruining a good show by copying it – continue it much better and diferent concept now-a-days on TV. Tired of remakes and copies!!
SAW EVERY SHOW MADE, BE CHOICE TO HAVE THE NEXT GENERATION WITH SOME
OF THE ORIGINALS OF COURSE.
Been waiting for a long time for this they do every other show why not the best show ever
would lov to see it.
SO HAPPY AT THE THOUGHT OF A NEW DALLAS SERIES ! BUT LINDA GRAY AND LARRY HAGMAN ARE A MUST! WITHOUT THEM ITS POINTLESS 🙂
If they bring it back, the next generation should focus on energy issues and make their billion$ in energy windmills and solar panels.
