Last October, we reported on early plans by Warner Bros. to do a Dallas: The Next Generation-style show for sister company TNT. The rumor was that the new Dallas series would focus on the offspring of some of the original main cast — John Ross III, the son of J.R. (Larry Hagman) and Sue Ellen (Linda Gray), and Christopher, the adopted son of Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and Pam (Victoria Principal).
Hagman, Gray and Duffy had reportedly been contacted to see if they’d be interested in taking part (Principal’s character was in an accident and her face was dramatically altered by plastic surgery). Hagman said that he’d be open to it but his interest really would depend on the quality script. And, not surprisingly, that was the last we heard of it. Projects like this often fall by the wayside.
Today, TNT announced plans to shoot a pilot for a new Dallas series. Here’s the info from the press release:
Dallas: Executive producer Cynthia Cidre, writer of the acclaimed film The Mambo Kings and creator/executive producer of the TV series Cane, has crafted an update of the long-running series about the Ewings of Southfork, whose betrayals, jealousies and passions have made them famous.
The story focuses on the offspring of bitter rivals and brothers JR and Bobby Ewing, who clash over the future of the Ewing dynasty while the fate of Southfork itself weighs in the balance. This project, based upon the iconic series created by David Jacobs, comes to TNT from Warner Horizon Television.
It’s unknown what ages the next generation will be in this new incarnation or if Omri Katz, the actor who played John Ross III for seven seasons and in the reunion movie, will be considered. He’s now 34 and, based on his IMDB resume, hasn’t been very active in the business for awhile.
What do you think? Are you interested in seeing a continuation of the Dallas series or should they do a reboot instead (ala CBS’ upcoming Hawaii Five-0)?
I wish I could watch this new revamping of the “old Dallas series”. However I don’t have cable. I haven’t had cable since “1999”. I guess I just to wait and see if this one, too, will come to DVD. Doggone it! What a shame!
does anyone know when the pilate of dallas is going to start ?
Great to here about the continuing saga but can not understand why they didnt bring Victoria Principal back with it. Was she even asked? Her chemistry was a proven fit. The success of the show should have been a consideration.
I was a regular viewer of Dallas & Knots Landing. Can’t wait!
Must you ask that question. Everyone should know that was the greatest show ever and yes keep some of the old cast members. That will make it more of a real continuation of the original Dallas. Hurry we baby boomers aren’t getting any younger. And, put it on a channel that everyone can get. Now get on it.
Good luck to J.R. for returning to Dallas, I would’ve really loved to see all of the original surviving members of Dallas back including Ken Kercheval as Cliff Barnes who haven’t played the character since 1996’s J.R. Returns he should come back to play him again and as well as the rest back again if the scripts were good and beautifully well said, let’s just wait and see who knows.
I’m very excited about the prospect of a new generation of Dallas! I watched ever episode od the origional Dallas. I think the should use the origional cast to bring familiarity to the show. I hate when the change the ages & time of the show just to appeal to a certain demographic.
Bring it on. It is the only “soap” I’ve ever watched and would watch it again.
Been waiting forever and I still miss the original. Best show ever on tv. Hurry up and bring it back. Having some of the old characters in the new show would be nothing but a plus. I miss them so much
I would like to see the Next Generation of Dallas. It was and is the best Soap Opera around. The characters are seasoned and very good with their characters. Please bring it on!!!!!
would love to watch it. still try and catch the original one when I can catch it on t.v.
Would love to see a remake of the old Dallas series!
I have waited forever for the retun. Never could figure out why potential producers wouldn’t look at some of the soap stars to play for instance, Sue Ellen.
One gal from One Life to Live would be awsome. I beleive her last name is Pava.
We don’t necessarily need the original folks, but we do need someone similar.
Come on, get with it!
We definitely need some orginal cast members. They were the heart of the show and older people can relate to them.
yes i would love to see the new series
I can’t wait. Loved the show.
