ABC has unveiled yet another cop series, Detroit 1-8-7. This one stars Michael Imperioli who, as you may recall, co-starred on ABC’s Life on Mars a couple seasons ago. That one was cancelled after 17 episodes. Will his new show last any longer?
Detroit 1-8-7 follows a group of homicide detectives working on the tough streets of Detroit, Michigan. The ABC series stars Imperioli as well as Aisha Hinds, D.J. Cotrona, Erin Cummings, James McDaniel, Jon Michael Hill, Natalie Martinez, and Shaun Majumder.
In its premiere, the series attracted a lackluster 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.342 million total viewers. For the timeslot, it was in third (last) place for the all-important demo and in second place for total viewers (beating Parenthood).

The series premiere lost nearly half of its lead-in audience from Dancing with the Stars. Not good.
On top of that, Detroit 1-8-7 continued to lose viewers as the hour progressed. That’s a pretty good indicator that those viewers won’t be back next week.
Detroit 1-8-7 will likely lose viewers in week two, as most shows do. It won’t have to lose many to be in serious trouble.
But, what do you think? Is Detroit 1-8-7 worth watching? Will you make a point to tune in or should it be cancelled already?

its an okay show, its nothing too wow about it, it could use some more “heart”, the characters seem soo vague, need to build much better relationships between the cops. I get it realistic, but this is scripted TV – give us something too look forward to, something to we can relate to. The cases are too blah, and we dont have enough time to get to know the situations before the team gets all over it. If i wanted to run through it I would watch Cops instead. They could also do better with cases more gruesome and sadder… Read more »
LOVE Detroit 1-8-7 !! Can’t wait for Tuesdays to roll ’round. If ABC cancels this (like it did with “The Unusuals”, which was an equally great program that got the ax for no good reason), then I give up. I am so sick and tired of tweenies dictating which programs stay on and which don’t. They have the mental capacity of a gnat and shouldn’t be the deciding factor for ANYthing !!
I enjoyed the show. I just think the show would get more viewers if they record in the inner city of detroit and show some real crime that’s going on. Showing crimes in the downtown area and around vacant houses where there is practically no crime is like sugar coating the real crime that goes on in detroit.
Awesome show! loved it. I hope it stays on tv.
I liked the show and had planned to continue watching it. It also got positive feedback on iTunes. I very much agree that it would/will do significantly better with its numbers if it were moved to a different time slot. But the show has a lot of potential and I think it would be wrong to consider dumping it so early or even mid-season. It’s worth working with!
I really liked it a lot. Michael Imperioli is a great actor and a great cast. I will watch this all the time. Much, much than the Law & Order machine. Sick of them. I hope it doesn’t have to go.
Didn’t love it didn’t hate it. But what I DO HATE is the fact the canceled The unusuals. That show was easily like 5 times better honestly. But I’m gonna watch atleast the next few weeks assumeing that their still gonna air the next few shows. ABC ive it a chance please.
The title of the show is really bad and there was no promotion for the show that I saw. However, the show itself was really enjoyable. Michael Imperiotti was great, and I liked the rest of the cast too. Tivo recoreded the show like it does for all of the premiere episodes, otherwise I would have missed this gem. It is not as good as Lone Star, but it is a show worth watching.
Shaky, amateur-like hand-held camera work drove me crazy. Looked like a 10 year old was following them around with a camcorder! Really didn’t interest me, not enough character development to keep my interest. Didn’t care for the colorful language although that’s probably more realistic. The camera worked turned me off enough to not watch again. Besides, looks like they are trying to remake NYPD Blue (which I never watched for the same reason….stupid camera angles). Cancel it.
it was pretty cheesy. writing was hokey.
felt like a show from the 80’s, not in a good way.
The ratings were pretty bad…The only reason it started with a decent amount of viewers was because the DWTS viewers were still reaching to change the channel. They all ditched, well over 50% of them, in the first 15 minutes, and kept leaving the entire hour. There wasn’t one second of stable viewership, it was consistently sliding down. So…. yea.
This program is great!
187 is great I really enjoy watching it .please keep it on the T.V,Detroit finally have something good happening, 187 is making Detroit look better,Detroit needed that ,187 make me feel so happy just watching a T.V. show in Detroit,187 keep up the good work you will fullfill your T.V. show in my heart I feel you will be on for a long time. Thank You
Loved it! All actors were excellent, especially Michael Imperiotti. The female lead was especially impressive. This show had clever plot twists and dialogue, up until the absurd unlikely ending.
Would have watched it ( and will watch it going forward, after all, we Michiganders must support Detroit) but a severe storm went through our are and knocked our power out just before the premier.
ABC should keep it, but move it to another night away from The Good Wife.
