ITV is headed back to the 19th century. Recently, the UK network announced filming has begun on season two of The Frankenstein Chronicles.
The drama stars Sean Bean as John Marlott, a London police inspector who discovers a dark underworld within the city. The cast also includes Anna Maxwell Martin, Charlie Creed-Miles, Eloise Smyth, Samuel West, and Vanessa Kirby.
In 2015, A&E announced they would air season one of The Frankenstein Chronicles in the U.S. However, no premiere date has been announced. It remains unclear if the network will also air season two.
From ITV:
The Frankenstein Chronicles, a terrifying re-imagining of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein starring Sean Bean has returned to begin filming its second season for ITV Encore and Endemol.
The major new six-part drama series, produced by Rainmark Films, sees Bean return as John Marlott – no longer a mere mortal, Marlott’s purpose is to seek revenge on Lord Daniel Hervey for taking his life, and to redeem his soul after being wrongly convicted and hanged for murder.
Set in 1830s London, Marlott must operate outside the law as he comes up against dark forces in high society and in the dangerous slums of the over-crowded capital. In his pursuit of Hervey, Marlott takes on the establishment in the form of Robert Peel’s newly formed Police force and the Church. In the darkest corners of Georgian London, Marlott acts as defender of the poor and destitute as he fights to clear his name and bring Hervey to justice.
Cast joining Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Accused) includes Laurence Fox (Becoming Jane, Lewis), Ed Stoppard (The Musketeers, Cilla), Maeve Dermody (SS-GB, And Then There Were None) and Richie Campbell (Waterloo Road, Liar). Robbie Gee (Cuffs, Snatch), Ryan Sampson (Plebs, Holby City), Tom Ward (Silent Witness) and Vanessa Kirby (The Crown, About Time) will also return.
The new series is written by Michael Robert Johnson, Paul Tomalin, Noel Farragher, Colin Carberry and Glenn Patterson, directed by Alex Gabassi (Psi, The Hypnotist), produced by Lawrence Till (Harlots, Mr Selfridge, Shameless) and executive produced by Tracey Scoffield (Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight, The Gathering Storm, Dirty Pretty Things), David Tanner (The Frankenstein Chronicles – Series 1, Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight – as co-producer) and Frank Doelger (Game of Thrones, Rome, John Adams, The Gathering Storm) for Rainmark Films, and Justin Thomson and Patrick Irwin (The Fall, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell) for Far Moor.
Talent behind the camera includes director of photography Joel Devlin, Costume Designer Lindsay Pugh, Hair and Make-Up Designer Pamela Smyth and Production Designer Ashleigh Jeffers.
Filming will begin in Northern Ireland from 13 March 2017 with funding from Northern Ireland Screen.

The Frankenstein Chronicles series 1 was absolutely brilliant! Indeed with Sean Bean in the staring role how could it be anything but brilliant! I hope it has many more seasons. It was truly the first time I’ve been shocked & suprized by a series in many years! I stayed glued to the Chesterfield, frozen & waiting to see what twist would make me think I’m not as good a TV series detective as I thought! It’s not your Mums Frankenstein!!
