Did Carlene finally take down Amanda? We’ll never know. ABC has cancelled GCB after one short season of 10 episodes. There won’t be a “second coming” or a second season for this show.
Based on the novel Good Christian Bitches, GCB follows a former high school mean girl (Leslie Bibb), now a single mom and widow, who returns home to Texas and tries to make amends with the women that she used to torment. The show’s ensemble cast also includes Lauran Irion, Colton Shires, Annie Potts, Kristin Chenoweth, David James Elliott, Jennifer Aspen, Brad Beyer, Miriam Shor, Mark Deklin, and Marisol Nichols.
This dramedy debuted to a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demograpic with 7.56 million viewers. That wasn’t a great showing but it was far better than what ABC had been getting with Pan Am earlier in the season.

Most shows see their ratings decline in week two but GCB’s actually grew, a sign that there was some positive word of mouth helping the series.
Over the course of the show’s short season, the numbers fluctuated a bit but it ended up averaging a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.87 million viewers. On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo performance of shows on the network, GCB had a “C-” grade.
It was firmly “on the bubble” between a cancellation and a renewal but ABC ultimately decided to cancel it. A slightly-better rated bubble show, Scandal was renewed. If that new Shonda Rhimes series had done a bit worse, GCB might have been renewed.
As it is, GCB has been cancelled. Some Christians and organizations objected to the show as they felt the original title was demeaning to Christians. Some called for boycotts but its difficult to know if that had any impact on the ratings or the network.
The last episode of GCB aired on May 6th. It wasn’t intended as a series finale so some ongoing storylines were left unresolved.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that GCB has been cancelled and won’t be returning for season two? Do you think the show was demeaning to all Christians? Do you think the objections had an impact on ABC’s decision to cancel it?
I loved GCB and I am so mad all the good shows get cancelled! Please, tbs or something, or better yet, CMT sold pick up this gem of a show! I am seriously SO sad 🙁
Show was a piece S.
It is very weird ABC cancelled “GCB” and “Missing” and the CW cancelled “Ringer” but stupid shows like “The Chew” stay on the air something is wrong .
I watched the show and it was one of the few that actually made me laugh, not all this crime or reality stuff but just plain viewing fun. They worked great together to make a funny but interesting story line! What a shame!!
I loved this show and cant believe you cancelled it! Someone needs fired for making that decision.
I loved this show! I don’t get why they will cancel a funny show; it didn’t offend me any way as a christian. There was a good variety of characters on GCB! I would rather watch some good fun tv series that REALITY TV (that is so freakin fake!). Let us have our GCB’s back!!!!
This show was awesome. Totally unexpected and funny and I loved the characters! I hate it when networks cancel good entertainment. You wish you knew ahead of time that it wasn’t gonna stick around so you don’t get sucked in. makes me feel so helpless to have no say in what’s on TV.
My family loved GCB! We are very sad to hear it was canceled. I too would like to know who to contact to protest.
Bring back GCB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hardly ever watched TV until this show aired! The religious fanatics who have a problem with it should look a little closer at reality TV if they think this is bad…
BRING BACK GCB!!!
Cant we petition this??
so I guess if you’re over 49, you get no say in tv programming.
Are you kidding me?!!!??! PLEASE RENEW!! Obvesely if the show grew at the two week mark, instead of plumiting like many others typically do, then that should be a sign to bring it back. My mom and I both watch this show and it finally gave us something to tallk about again and laugh about together. We haven’t had the chance to do that since I was a little girl and we watched Gilmore Girls together… There are so many people out there that want to see this story continued. This show is like no other before. It had guts… Read more »
Please renew! please, please, please! I loved it! So did my friends and Family! I want to know what happens next!
Good well developed program. If we can’t take some humor based on regonal behaviors where are we? I live in small town america and could reconize most all of the characters portrayed. Some were made bigger than life but most behaved in the sames ways portayed if given the oportunity. Laugh at yourselves, come on don’t take life so seriously.
Please Renew! I always looked forward to my Sunday nights watching desperate housewives and GCB. I thought that the Christian storyline was lintereating and creative and I give them props for incorporating it. But put it back on the air!
I’d miss the girls!
