Despite very small viewership, HBO renewed Getting On for a second season. Will the ratings improve this time around? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a third season? Stay tuned.
Based on a UK series of the same name, Getting On follows the staff at the Billy Barnes Extended Care Unit of Mt. Palms Hospital in Long Beach, CA. They attend to the needs of female patients who are often “getting on” in years. The comedy stars Laurie Metcalf, Alex Borstein, Niecy Nash, and Mel Rodriguez.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s chances of staying on the air. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.
2/9 update: The series has been renewed for a third and final season.
Final season averages: 0.08 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 250,000 total viewers.

What do you think? Do you still like the Getting On TV show? Do you think that the show should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
Do not cancel this show!!! One of the funniest shows on TV. Do something to promote it for more viewership. Hysterical!!!
This show is absolutely one of the funniest that I have seen in many years. I really do laugh out loud. I am also a health care worker so that makes the show even better. It is totally on target with the current happenings in health care. It is so well written that one does not have to be a healthcare worker to appreciate the comedy. Hope it gets renewed for a season 3!
This show is hilarious. A bit of an odd duck but completely likeable. Each character is so interesting, the show is so well written I can’t believe it’s not a smash hit. Laurie Metcalf is brilliantly off-kilter. Makes me laugh out loud.
This show is brilliantly funny, sad and is excellently written! I will be VERY disappointed if it is not renewed for a third season. I agree that the show is not being targeted to the right audiences and the promotion of the show is not being promoted enough.
Well, considering it’s a show about seniors and elder care, could I ask why you’re not pulling ratings for Adults 25-54, Women 35-49 and Adults 50+? Why sound the low ratings buzzer when you totally missed the target? This show is comedy gold.
This is one of the funniest shows on TV!!!! The writing and acting are superb!!!

It really takes watching a whole show or two to realize the brilliance of this show. It is funny, sad, emotional, and a very good portrayal of real life. I work in healthcare and I am very critical of shows claiming’ and failing, to portray what hospitals are really like (I am talking to you Gray’s Anatomy). However, this show comes very close to the real… Read more »
