Marc Maron, Alison Brie, and Betty Gilpin have joined the cast of the GLOW TV show at Netflix. Deadline reports Maron will play the male lead, opposite Brie’s Ruth, a struggling actress, who ends up in the world of women’s wrestling, as a last ditch effort to salvage something of a career.
According to the report, Maron has been cast a Sam Sylvia, “…a washed-up Hollywood director who has a very complicated history with women — and now must lead 14 of them on the journey to wrestling stardom.”
Per an earlier report Gilpin will co-star as Debbie Eagan a soap star who left daytime to raise a family. Eagan is, “…sucked back in when her picture-perfect life is not what it seems.”
A scripted comedy series, GLOW is inspired by the 1980s G.L.O.W. (ie., Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) wrestling league. The GLOW TV series is created by showrunners Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch. They executive produce with Tara Herrmann and Jenji Kohan.
Netflix ordered GLOW to series in May.
