As if you didn’t know already, the highly-anticipated Betty White-hosted episode of Saturday Night Live is scheduled for tonight. In addition to the 88-year-old legend, the Mother’s Day eve event will also feature a bevy of familiar ladies from SNL history, including Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Ana Gasteyer, Maya Rudolph, and Molly Shannon.
As you might expect, a wrap is being kept on exactly what skits will be done but, this week, Dratch shared with Tonic that we might see a sketch based on White’s classic NBC sitcom, The Golden Girls.
Tonic: Will we see a Golden Girls sketch, with Betty playing Rose? If so, who would you pick out of all the female alumni to play Blanche and Dorothy? And, why do I see you playing Sofia?
Rachel: In fact, there was a Golden Girls sketch at the read-thru table today, and I was Sofia, Ana was Dorothy and Amy was Blanche. But there were just so many sketches with everyone coming back that a lot of stuff couldn’t make it in. There was indeed a lot of funny stuff at the read-through table.
Tonic: Any hints you can give us about any of the funnier sketches?
Rachel: No, but a few of my personal faves by Ana and Molly are slated to appear. But again, with that place, you just never know. You can never say ‘we are DEFINITELY doing this sketch’ because no matter how good it seems, it could always surprise you and get cut. I don’t think that will happen with any of the old standbys, but it’s good to remain fluid about the show.
What do you think? Would you like to see White in a sketch about The Golden Girls? Or, how about in one in which she plays Sue Ann Nivens from The Mary Tyler Moore Show?
