It is rumored Josh Charles will return as Will Gardner for The Good Wife TV series finale, which airs May 8th. Creators and showrunners Robert King and Michelle King will neither confirm nor deny that Charles is coming back to the successful CBS drama. According to Variety, though, they are, “enjoying the buzz.” It seems to us if he were not returning, the Kings would put that out there, so fans would not have unrealistic expectations the finale is unable to meet.
Regardless, TV Line reports Charles will reprise the late Will Gardner character, in The Good Wife series finale, airing May 8, 2016. “Rumor has it he will appear opposite Julianne Margulies’ Alicia in a newly-created flashback sequence (NCFS). CBS would not confirm Charles’ return.”
Here is more from Variety, on The Good Wife TV show finale:
In a Q&A following the screening, Margulies confessed she had a lot of feelings when she saw the final script.
“I read it once, and I couldn’t talk to anyone about it, because I was emotionally confused, because I was having so many emotions knowing I was wrapping this character up,” Margulies said.
The Kings sent Margulies a bottle of wine with the last script, and a note that said, “Alicia should be drinking while reading this.”
“So I opened the wine,” Margulies told the audience. “And I poured a wee glass, not an Alicia-sized glass. I then I read it a fourth time, and I then could digest it. I wrote [the Kings] three lines: ‘Nothing but brilliant.’”
Variety spoke to Margulies, Matt Czuchry, Cush Jumbo, and the Kings yesterday afternoon, at the Tribeca Film Festival and screened the fourth-to-last episode.
