NBC has decided to cancel their struggling comedy Growing Up Fisher after a single season of 13 episodes. While there won’t be a second season, there are still two new episodes to come.
Growing Up Fisher follows an unorthodox family that becomes closer after the parents divorce. The cast includes Elfman, J. K. Simmons, Eli Baker, Ava Deluca-Verley, and Lance Lim. Jason Bateman is the show’s narrator.
The sitcom started off with okay ratings — at least when compared to NBC’s other comedies. They dropped over the course of the season however and hit a new series low this week with a 1.2 demo rating and 5.05 million total viewers. That surely didn’t help this show’s chances.
There are two unaired episodes remaining and NBC has announced that they will air in a one-hour block on Wednesday, May 28th.
What do you think? Did you like this sitcom? If you ran the network, would you have cancelled it or renewed Growing Up Fisher for season two?
Of all the lame shows on T.V. there’s finally one worth watching !
Growing up Fisher and About a Boy was the most enjoyable hour of T.V. on any of the major networks. Perhaps one of the other networks could pick it up.(do they do that any more ?) If not I’ll go to my old stand by FX !
RENEW!!!! Do Not Cancel this show!!!! My husband and I loved watching! Reconsider, for us, ONE MORE SEASON! Love the cast!!!! So Sorry that they had canceled a terrific show!!!!
It was a great show! The only show I watched on T.V., it
Always made me laugh.
Please bring back Growing up Fisher
The cast did an excellent job.
We love this show!!! We are so sad to hear this…we watch this show every week and look forward to the upcoming episodes. We want them to reconsider! ugh…we are so disappointed in these types of constant poor choices. They’ll probably put another reality show in its place. We have bailed on cable/network television and now pick more and more from Netflix, Hulu, and other sources to get some decent options. We’ll miss this show as one of them.
Wow I am so sad to hear. There are such bad shows on T.V, Me my husband and family were so loving this one.. Who makes these decisions??????
I agree the show was very good. I guess it was too clean not sleazy enough 4 them 2 keep it on. Such a shame really enjoyed watching it.
Extremely disappointed. So many sit-cons are the same now at days but Growing Up Fisher really stepped outside of that comedy box. I appreciated the ideas and themes incorporated in this show and am very disappointed. I hope that some miracle will bring back this show because it was becoming one of my favorites.
I would Have renewed it for a second season it was comedy gold. Same with ABC’s Mixology but noooo they had to cancel that too. I hate how all the new and funny shows are getting canceled yet TV networks keep all the boring and far to predictable shows. Not cool. I think that Growing up fisher has a genuine diversity that shows today lack.
Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My family absolutely love this show!!!Don’t cancel please!!!!!!
How do you sleep at night?Grrrrrrrr.:'(
I totally agree with those who express great sadness and being so disappointed over the cancellation of Growing Up Fisher. When GUF came along, I was so impressed — a mainline network broadcast with likeable characters in real-life dramas, plus the sensitive handling of a major dis-ability. Now there was a winner! But in no time I learn from a friend who shared my appreciation that it’s cancelled. How do you come up with these ratings? Who do you talk to? Where were viewers given a chance to vote? It makes no sense. I truly hope the hue & cry… Read more »
I completely agree, Betty Ann, on the extreme disappointment by the canceling of Growing Up Fisher. There are so few television programs which are family friendly, entertaining and well done. Growing Up Fisher was one of those needles in a haystack. So very, very sad as this was the one and only show my 12 year old and I watch together and both feel lighter and entertained having watched it.
@Bunny – yep, NBC is airing another lame award show on Wednesday! How rotten!
TV Series Finale – plllleeeeeeease e-mail me and post here if/when NBC is going to air the show or if the episodes are going on Hulu. I want to watch the last two. It’s so unfair that I can’t. 🙁
I enjoy growing up fisher.i like to see more
I was upset with NBC for canceling this show after about 1/2 a season (11 episodes have aired, compared to a usual number 0f between 20 and 24) – but I was looking forward to seeing the final two episodes, which have already been made, and which I had hoped would ‘wrap up’ the story to some degree. Now I am furious with the network, because it seems they have even reneged on airing those episodes. The information was that they would air this Wednesday, May 28th, but I have checked the tv listings online for that night, as well… Read more »
Bunny….recheck your tv menu guide as it gets closer to the promised airing. I have Directv and when I checked this morning I freaked when I didn’t see Growing Up Fisher listed for the Wed. May 28th ‘final episodes’. But, I just happened to be rechecking and my menu now must be being updated. My fingers are crossed that Fisher will be offered once the menu is edited and posted.
@Another Fisher Fan – NBC isn’t airing Fisher this week 🙁 They’ve got a horribly lame awards show instead.
No new date has been posted, but I have begged TV Series Finale to update us all if one is.
Something tells me we shouldn’t get our hopes up, and that NBC is likely not going to air it at all. That’s the norm for NBC and Fox. If it were on ABC, we could count on the eps coming to Hulu. Here, I’m not so sure.
Thanks, Fisher Fan. I hope you’re right. I use Zap2it to check listings, and I did just take another look. Still no GUF, but there’s a whole day yet. You never know!
Even if they put it on late at night I’d be happy to record and watch the next day.
NBC – are you listening?? Doubt it.
IT”S ON TONIGHT! Unless Directv screwed up on their menu I am seeing those final two half hour episodes listed tonight for 8 pm and 8:30 pm (eastern time)
Maybe we screamed loud enough?
This is a good show, I watch it on Hulu with 2 others…
It is with great sadness that I read of the cancellation of Growing Up Fisher. Loved the characters, love the cast, loved the show. NBC seems to flail about and continue to make stupid decisions. The Crazy Ones was also a favorite of mine.
For the record, Crazy Ones was on CBS, not NBC. But who would have thought that a show with star power like Mork and Buffy would get the cold shoulder so fast? I bet Robin Williams wishes he had never considered returning to network TV. They had a good supporting cast also – Brad Garrett was hilarious on Everybody Loves Raymond, and Hamish Linklater was one of the best things on The New Adventures of Old Christine (which deserved a better name, IMO). Maybe the writers for Crazy Ones were the problem, because it certainly wasn’t the cast. CBS has… Read more »
I am so disappointed! My husband and I love this show! We looked forwArd to it every week! This is the second show we started watching that was absolutely awesome that got cancelled far to early! First mind games and now growing up fisher! Ugh!!!
