After just two weeks on the air, ABC has decided to pull Happy Town from the schedule. The TV show will be back but, for how long?
Happy Town follows the residents of a small town in Minnesota. After being plagued by kidnappings years ago, it seems the mysterious “Magic Man” has returned to start a killing spree. The cast includes features Sam Neill, M.C. Gainey, Geoff Stults, Lauren German, Amy Acker, Steven Weber, Ben Schnetzer, Sarah Gadon, Jay Paulson, and Robert Wisdom.
The series got off to a poor start two weeks ago with a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.25 million viewers. Last week, for episode two, viewership took a nosedive to a 1.2 in the demo and 3.79 million viewers.
To no surprise, ABC has pulled Happy Town for the remainder of May sweeps. After tonight’s episode, the series goes on hiatus for two weeks and will return on June 2nd.
While this wouldn’t necessarily be a sign that the show will be cancelled, the ratings are. They’re terrible and there’s every expectation that they’re just going to get worse — especially with warmer weather coming and people spending less time in front of the TV.
After tonight’s episode, there are just five episode left. With numbers like these, fans of Happy Town will be lucky if the network shows the rest of them, never mind a second season.
Next week’s episode will be replaced by an edition of Primetime: What Would You Do?. On May 26th, ABC will present the network premiere of the Transformers movie.
What do you think? Why isn’t Happy Town performing better? Is it just not a very good TV show or are viewers just missing the boat?

I agree with Dawn “I have been waiting for the show to start after 2 weeks being gone. I was wondering what happened. I love the show. I can’t believe it was canceled. What a great show. ABC what were you thinking.”
SO upset and such a horrible idea ABC… hence why you are not the top network….
I went onto abc.com and watched the last two shows. They left it open for so many different story lines! And it didn’t answer all of my questions. I hope Syfy picks it up for a second season.
And for those who like this show, check out Haven on Syfy. It has a similar feel.
I was enjoying a well-written, well-acted series…ABC pulled it before the ending…How long do you think Dean Koontz or Stephen King would last if they never finished one of their novels? I also hate reality shows…I watch television for the same reason I watch movies, to escape reality…Besides, reality shows are a sham…Put Happy Town back on the air!
i like the show happy town yall shgould bring it back i kn it will get better me and my family was watching it and my parents come on put it back on. give it a chance

I think the show begins kinda slow and that contributed to the dip in viewership(I know i almost lost interest after the first episode). But when the intrigues and suspense started , i was had. I am very disappointed. Bring back the next season please. We have to know who the magic man is and what exactly is up with the Haplin family
You can find out who the mugic man is . Go to abc websuite happy town . ES
Too bad. It was an interestesting show. I hope they bring it back for the remaining episodes. I hate when these decision makers make decisions to show certain short-term programs, but then decide to plug the plug. Pretty stupid of them! Bring it back on and let it finish!
too bad
it was a very interesting show.
i rarely watch TV, coz most show are silly. this one was deferent, something in it push me to watch it.
I also agree about Happy Town. I am intrigued with these show formats, as I am also a reader of suspensful stories i.e. Dean Koontz. I am tired of watching shows that a Network just drops and there is no closure. As above mentioned, Invasion was also a show I set my VCR/DVR for. The pregnant lady was put in the water and then ‘poof’ no more info and you wasted many an evening watching the story line. I am also VERY SICK of the reality shows. I watch TV to either learn something (news or newslike shows – 20/20)… Read more »
I so agree with everything you said. Bring back the days of long term shows with real substance instead of reality which isn’t the reality of anyone I know!!!
(my-space-bar-is-broken)
seriously?-this-was-finally-a-good-show-i-think-secret-life-of-american-teenager-should-be-canceled-instead-honestly-i-think-just-not-allot-of-people-really-know-about-this-show-yet,especially-with-summer-here-no-ones-really-watching-tv,i-think-this-show-should-be-put-back-on
I think it’s such a shame that Happy Town is being bumped. I’m so sick of reality shows and the same old medical shows, Yuck!! Thank goodness for netflix where I can watch decent series that actually finish a story. No more Damages, Invasion and now Happy Town. So much for network TV
I think it is terrible you would put a program on, get people (evidently not important enough people) interested then just drop it . How did it end who was the MAGIC MAN will it go to video so you can see a proper ending???????????? This is why my family and I do not watch this chanel very often. IT IS A LET DOWN
Network’s are stupid. Too much reality crap and not enough decent shows (I know you have heard this before). It’s one after another cop or hospital drama, because people in those fields care are sooooo intriguing. It’s been done folks! To death! Show’s like Happy Town are solid because you become interested and actually care what happens to the people. I though (just my opinion) it was very well developed. ABC put it on in the summer and at 10:00 at night? Wonder why it didn’t fare so well? Of course shows like Dancing with Stars come back year after… Read more »
Happy Town should be started again. The show was very interesting. The story line reminds me of the types of books I like to read, especially Dean Koontz. I love suspense & this show had me captivated. There are too many reruns in the summer. Who vacations in this economy? I watch TV. I shut it off with all the brainless reality shows.
