Home Fires will continue but not on TV. According to The Bookseller, the cancelled ITV series will be continued as a set of books.
The UK drama, which aired on PBS in the U.S., followed the members of the Women’s Institute during World War II. The cast included Francesca Annis, Daisy Badger, Mark Bazeley, Leanne Best, and Samantha Bond. ITV cancelled the series last year after only two seasons.
Per The Bookseller, UK publishers Bonnier Zaffre have acquired the rights to three Home Fires novels. The books will pick up from the season two finale, and the first novel is slated for released as an e-book in July and as a paperback this fall.
Read more details below:
The first of the three novels, Keep the Home Fires Burning, will pick up from the finale of the second series, aired 16th May 2016. It will publish as a four-part e-book serial with a part to be released each month from July 2017, and as a complete novel in paperback and e-book this autumn .Part one of the currently untitled second book publishes in e-book form in Spring 2018. “
What do you think? Are you a fan of Home Fires? Will you read the books?
I too am a fan of Home Fires…would so enjoy watching this on PBS again! But as life does not go as one wishes……SAD?
As for books…I would read if printed. I do not have knowledge of how to get e books! I do purchase books at Barnes and Noble. Example I have read all Grantchester.

Very disappointed that this wonderful series was cancelled. No, I will not read the novels. Not the same. So unfair to have this cliffhanger only to cancel. Why not a final show to wrap things up. I feel cheated, will think twice about watching PBS series that may be cancelled..
Loved the T.V show- wont read the books. They had a good thing going on the Telly, sorry its gone.
My husband & I have enjoyed the series & were looking forward to Season 3. Yes, I will read the 1st novel, but, would of preferred viewing the episodes instead. But, if not as great as the series, I will not continue.
Yes I will read the novels. I loved the show!
My husband and I loved the series. I might try the books, but if they are not of the same quality, I won’t continue. If they were going to cancel the series, they should have wrapped up the story. If this is a bait and switch, it’s not a good practice. Removes trust from future viewing. (And I love to read. But…)
How could you cancel a show in the middle of a cliff hanger? I will not read the books even on kindle it will just not be the same
Why would they have cancelled this series? My family loved every minute. The cast of characters become our family and they are not completed. Yes you will force me to read the novels just for closure but I am not happy about it at all.
Excellent series, surely there is a large fan base…why was it cancelled? Yes I will read the books…I have come to be fond of these well-developed characters! I agree with Roger!
Tremendous show. We subscribed to the PBS Masterpiece option on Amazon, but we will now cancel. It is not right to promote a great show and then end it in midstory. Kudos to the writers and actors and shame on the person/people who cancelled the show.
Really disappointed that the series has been cancelled. I wanted to see if Pat and Merrick get back together. It’s a great cast and a wonderful story. Hopefully, someone else will bring it back in another venue.
Please continue the series. It is a wonderful story. The costumes, scenery, authentic era is marvelous. The acting is fantastic.
Please continue the series on television. I have enough novels to read.
Why not create a 2 hour made for TV movie of Home Fires in order to provide a satisfying conclusion for the well written characters?
