There may still be a chance for Home Fires. According to Radio Times, the show’s creator is hoping to continue the cancelled ITV series.
Earlie this month, we reported the UK drama had been cancelled after two seasons. Home Fires stars Samantha Bond and Francesca Annis as members of the Women’s Institute during World War II.
Series creator Simon Block said he was surprised by the show’s cancellation:
It’s always difficult to gauge how things are going to go so you don’t quite know what the criteria for whether something’s going to carry on or not. It had held its audience, it had won its slots, figures were strong as far as I was told so in that sense I guess it was a surprise in that it went against what we were expecting based on the criteria we were told things get judged by.”
He mentioned that the fans’ response has been overwhelming:
I’ve been blown away. When the news came out that it had been cancelled, suddenly everything went ballistic and you really get a sense of how passionately people feel about it. That was really a bit of a shock.”
He later added that the show is exploring other avenues for a possible third season, but they are still in the process of “initial discussions.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Home Fires? Would you like a third season?
Yes!!! We want a 3rd season. Shameful how they ended it! Left the stories hanging with no conclusion.
Looking forward to Season 3 for Home Fires!! Excellent program. Important to know how these brave people survived this devastating war. So much to learn from this show. Please do not cancel.
Home Fires canceled? A truly bizarre decision. We loved it, as did everyone we know who watched seasons 1 and 2. Well written, with an excellent cast, both of which support a storyline and characters we viewers care about. Without a third season to close all the stories within the series we are left with nothing more than uncertainties and ambiguities entangled within related loose ends. ITV should seriously rethink this decision. Otherwise, Home Fires has just been tossed onto the heap of other incomplete TV series that will soon be forgotten. After all, who wants to start watching a… Read more »
I can only add my own personal endorsement of this show, which I found much more relative to most of my friends’ lives and my family’s lives than the-equally excellent-series Downton Abby (to which it has often been compared in terms of quality). It is also most upsetting for it to end with so many loose ends and so much hardship and uncertainty in the people’s lives. Please, somebody with sensitivity and sense give us more of this program! Why so many awful, idiotic programs (and their clones) go on year after year speaks volumes about how little the producers… Read more »
Best quality of drama I’ve seen. Loaded with talent, acting, scrip writers, story development, direction. To pull out in the middle of the story is unprofessional!
Would love to have a third season–it is well written and well acted.
Come on, Simon Block! Find another channel to revive Home Fires for it’s third season. Such as BBC One, ITV 3, ITV Encore, Channel 4, Netflix or Amazon Prime. I hope it’ll come back next year or the year after.

The story line is very interesting and not at all predictable. Would like a third series (and a fourth and fifth).
Please renew Home Fires. It is the best show and I want to see them through the war. ITV. LISTEN TO THE VIEWERS! We want this show.
I guess excellece in acting and story no longer no longer are rewarded. People loved this series and want more, shouldn’t that count for something? I have no interest in following a new ITV series that could end up in the air like this one. Very disappointing decision.
I can’t believe it was left in this fashion. A plane crashes into the doctor’s home/office as Mim is giving birth and the audience knows NOTHING as to what comes next. It’s irresponsible to your viewers for this and future ITV programs. Sad and shameful.
OMG!! How could you cancel such a wonderful show. I’ve just become a fan of PBS/BBC here in the U.S.A. I agree at least tie up the loose ends and give us a final season. PLEASE!!
How could you leave us “dangling” and on the edge of our seats. What has happened to Pat, will any of the characters left in the house survive? Please at least do a proper “FINALE” and tie up the loose ends.
Absolutely! We can’t be left guessing with that cliffhanger in the last episode of Season 2.
Please continue with this series. It’s the best thing on t
