Long-running syndicated court show Judge Alex has been cancelled. The cancellation was confirmed by Stephen Brown, executive VP of programming and development for the Fox Television Stations.
“We would like to thank Alex Ferrer as well as executive producer Kathy Sapp and the entire staff for producing a strong daytime court program,” said Brown in a statement. “Alex’s extensive police, legal and judicial experience combined with his great sense of humor made for compelling daytime television for nearly 10 years.”
Judge Alex debuted on September 12, 2005 and features cases that are presided over by Judge Alex E. Ferrer, a former police officer, lawyer, and Florida judge.
The series is the lowest-rated of the five remaining court shows and will continue airing original episodes through August.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Ferrer said, “It was not my decision to end the show. I enjoyed doing the show and would keep doing it but, for many reasons, the company that produces the show wanted to move on. I am grateful that I was able to work with really amazing people like my EP Kathy Sapp and Associate EP’s Tera Roberson and James Glover; Directors Eddie October, Michael Dimitch and Art Bergel; Bailiffs Mason Burroughs & Victor Simon, my makeup, hair and wardrobe help that changed me from hideous to tolerable; incredible producers and associate producers who found great cases for me to try and so many others in our 100 person staff and crew who made the show a success. I’m also grateful to have so many great fans and friends, many of whom I got to meet; and I’m sure that I’ll still get to meet more of you at other events.”
He also hinted that he may return to television at some point in the future.
What do you think? Did you like Judge Alex? Are you sorry that it’s been cancelled?
How anyone could watch Judge Judy is beyond my wildest imagination. Judge Alex was fair. Judge Judy is a bully, unfair, abusive, intolerant, rude, crude and I could go on and on but just let me say, a truly ugly person inside and out. Anyone who goes before her is just looking for injustice and to be spit upon. What dope would do this to himself? Don’t you even have an ounce of respect for yourself?
You made me laugh. Apparently lots of people disagree since Judge Judy remains the most watched Judge show. More people ask to take their cases before Judge Judy than any other judge on TV. Entertainment always counts when it is a TV show and if she makes no ruling, they can take it to small claims court where they live. Judge Alex was good and I enjoyed him. But I appreciate Judge Judy as well.
Probably same group who likes Judge Judy dig Jerry Springer’s show. Same principle?
No, just the opposite. I can’t stand Jerry Springer. it is often just a screaming match. It is totally the reverse with Judge Judy who controls her courtroom which is what makes some people angry because she will not allow the litigants to be drama kings and queens. In controlling her courtroom, she reins them in and she does it with sarcasm and humor which offends some people. She’s tough but I find her rulings reasonable most of the time. Judge Milian in People’s Court controls her courtroom as well. Every once in a while both Judge Judy and Judge… Read more »
For what it is worth, I taught science for over 40 years. As a pretty good observer, it was pretty obvious Judi operated by script. Not much of a listener…although many cases were clear cut.
Bottom line is that I didn’t ridicule students and don’t have much use for her type that does i.e. why I put her in the Springer category.
For what it is worth, I taught in science field for over 40 years, so consider myself an OK observer.
It is obvious Judge Judy pretty much follows a script with no intention of listening; mind being made up ahead of time.
Bottom line, I never ridiculed students or others and have little respect for those who do. Hence. I place her in Springer’s category. …all show
Everyone has his own style; I would never be sarcastic with students either. However, I never saw Springer ridicule anyone though I must confess I have never watched an entire show and the framework of his program is not a legal arbitration court of actual litigants. You have drawn a conclusion for which hard evidence is lacking when you insist that Judge Judy follows a script (whose?) with no intention of listening. I think she listens very closely. I have seen her change her mind during the questioning many times. She asks penetrating questions and demands answers that litigants often… Read more »
Well, History teacher, you hit many proverbial nails on the head. You have a number of good points
I’ve testified in court a number of times on behalf of students and have seen several types of judges.
Bottom line. I still see Judy as a “showman”.
On your part, I see a whole lot more of discretion as in this conversation
Thank you for those gracious concessions and I do agree that Judge Judy is certainly a showman. Last night I saw Judge Alex on the John Stossel Show where he was explaining private courts for arbitration which his company provides in comparison to government courts. To introduce him they showed some clips from his Judge Alex reality-based TV arbitration show where he was throwing out one of the litigants and he chuckled (looking very handsome), commenting that –well, that is entertainment so judges on TV sometimes get a little over dramatic. I had to smile considering our discussion about TV… Read more »
You are a man after my own heart. She does have her mind made up ahead of time. And why does she constantly tell people that she is smarter than them. Who is she trying to convince? And how can a Judge with integrity be so rude and insulting?
Kitty, I agree with you 100%.
That’s what I’m talking about!
HERE IS WHY YOU SHOULD “WATCH” JUDGE JUDY. Not that Judge Judy can’t defend herself but I would like to share my thoughts. First of all, if you have “never” been to court, you are very lucky. Second, if you watch Judge Judy’s shows, you will notice that the people who lose are the ones who come unprepared. Third, I love Judge Judy because she knows OR IS WILLING to TAKE THE TIME to get to the truth! Trust me, a lot of people raise their right hand and lie like crazy. So I would encourage the Judge Judy dissenters… Read more »
Exactly. I cannot agree more. Judge Judy does go for the truth. Too bad we cannot discuss a specific case. Ever since I read the criticisms, I have watched more closely and find just the opposite of the critics. Recently there was a black litigant versus a white litigant and Judge Judy blasted the white litigant for lying and being arrogant. He deserved it. He lost.
History teacher…..I thought the comment about our “civility ” when someone was bothered about us going off track into the Civil War/War of the Northern Incursion was kinda neat
I love this show he was the only judge show that I watched and now I’m forced to watch others I would like to have him return so I can stop watching all the other shows and just watch his show as I’ve had in the past. Bring him back not bad to look either. Trish Roses
I was crushed when I found out that he was no longer on air. Hope that he knows that he has fans that want him back. His shows were all very funny. Nothing fake-all real.
Judge Alwx was the best TV judge on the air. Please bring him back.
Please, please, please!
I really like Judge Alex, its hard for me to believe that his ratings were low. He was so fair in his decisions, and he had a good sense of humor. He is so handsome so he was easy on the eyes. I hope that some day soon he will return to tv as Judge Alex.
I am so disappointed. I was searching for Judge Alex today as my scheduled changed and I am home again during the day. Lo and behold I find that his show has been cancelled. Such a shame because he was my absolute favorite judge! I love that he was so experienced in various areas of criminal justice. You felt that he could see things from all perspectives. He was serious but also had a sense of humor and could respectfully poke a little fun at certain situations that certainly warranted it. It made the show entertaining but at the same… Read more »
Me too, I’m looking for it right now & I find this 🙁
It’s nice to know that so many others feel the same way that I do about the best court TV Judge.
I’m not home during the day, but when I am, I watch a couple of them. I’ve watched Judge Judy enough to know that I don’t want to watch her show again. I’m turned off by her cold demeanor. You’re right, the litigants don’t have to go on her show. They do have other choices. I just believe in respecting all people if they respect me. Some of the litigants that go on her show (including all races) don’t deserve the sarcasm. They all have their own style, but I really liked the way that Judge Alex handled all the… Read more »
That I understand completely. If you don’t like Judge Judy and consider her demeanor cold and that puts you off, so be it. We all have our personal reactions to a judge but there is something about the judge’s personality that makes the show entertaining which is why they have these arbitration-reality TV shows. By the way, I tried watching Judge Ross and I personally like him but I could not stand the show because it is one of those scripted judge shows with actors. Ugh. I generally don’t get home until 3 pm in the afternoon just in time… Read more »
Interestingly, History teacher, after I retired in got much more interested in history, especially after discovering how they referred to the Civil War down South : war of the northern incursion. Made me look into things much more. I think this a shortcoming of Judy. Needless to say this is why I wear the Rebel Cap. 🙂
I used to watch Judge Judy all the time. It’s the way that she treats some of the litigants and the bias that I’ve witnessed against Blacks. Not everyone is trying to get over. She’s the creator of Hot Bench which is why I don’t watch that. She has power. People with power can accomplish almost anything.
Yes, that is one of my favorite quotes from Lord Acton— “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” However, other than keeping political power divided with a separation of powers, and riding herd on those with power, we cannot stop the world from functioning. Anyone who is successful has influence so we don’t want to fall into the cynical pit of not letting people who are successful enjoy it. When we make accusations of the misuse of power, we need to have evidence. I watch Judge Judy as often as I can and I do not see any… Read more »
Money talks and people can buy ratings. The world is so dishonest and biased anything is possible. Has Judge Alex been given a chance to stay on air, his ratings would have soared. I believe he had a large minority audience. He treated all the litigants fairly and with respect.
What do you mean “people can buy ratings”? That seems self-defeating since the whole idea of advertising sponsors is to get the widest possible exposure to the largest possible audience. Sponsors want to reach a large audience with their products and services. Why would an advertising sponsor want to get rid of a show with potential? It is always possible that someone with clout did not like him for personal or political reasons but that would mean someone with the authority to cancel the show was willing to sacrifice potential profits for petty reasons. I liked Judge Alex too and… Read more »
Judge Judy has too much power, way too overpaid, and meaner than a rabid pitbull. And since when was going to court suppose to be ENTERTAINING? Judge Judy.should he flogged. Let’s see if SHE would like that.
What I meant to say is that I don’t believe Judge Alex’s ratings were low enough to cancel. I think that had he been given a chance to stay on air, his ratings would have soared. But maybe not because he treated all people with respect. I no longer enjoy watching Judge Judy, because she’s too mean. I realize that she has to control her courtroom, but he doesn’t have to be so harsh. She isn’t always correct about who’s lying and who’s not. I see her bias too often towards Black people which makes me not watch her anymore.
Money talks so who in this world is honest enough to admit that it was low ratings that resulted in Judge Alex being cancelled. How could one not like Judge Alex? He has such a wonderful personality, and knows how to treat all people, without having allowed the litigants control his courtroom. He was in charge.
I liked him too and enjoyed his show but “money talks” does not explain why anyone would cancel a show with high ratings in favor of a show with lower ratings. That doesn’t make any sense. Sponsors love shows with high ratings; they pay big bucks to advertise on shows with high ratings. That is the money that talks when ratings are high. Look at what sponsors will pay for just a few seconds to have an advertisement during the Superbowl extravaganza. Not enough of us watched Judge Alex or he would still be on. I dislike admitting that myself… Read more »
I wish Judge Alex was still on tv. His program was my favorite along with Judge Judy. He is in her class. I hope someone has the sense to put him back on the air.
The real reason that Judge Alex was taken off air was because his show was the best and too much competition for the one that thinks they’re number one.
As much as I enjoyed Judge Alex, his show did not have the highest ratings. Judge Judy stays number one because more people watch her show than any other reality judge show. Judge Alex was not too much competition for her show. If he had been, no one would have canceled his show. Sponsors want to advertise on shows that are watched by the most people.
I’m very disappointed I’ve been searching for his
show for some time now. This makes for bad TV
If you have even a small audience watching a show.
It’s disappointing to take it away from them. Because
maybe they can cause a growth in the audience
again and if not at least the small group of fan are
happy.
Yes I am very sorry they took him off. It was a great show. I just don ‘t get why they would do that. I hope they csn put him back on. He was great 2 look at too!
I wish they would bring Juge Alex back to tv. I loved his show n think he is great. Please bring him back soon…
