Following on the heels of last week’s cancellations of the Happy Hour sitcom and The Rich List game show, FOX has announced that another of its new shows is leaving the air.
Justice debuted on Wednesday, August 30th to high expectations. The network had been showing fast-paced promos of the Victor Garber series all summer long but it still failed to attract big numbers. The highly anticipated premiere was watched by only 8.6 million viewers.
Justice followed a diverse group of lawyers as they worked at a prestigious Los Angeles law firm. Each episode started at the beginning of a trial and followed it through until the verdict. Then viewers were shown, via flashbacks, what actually happened at the time of the crime.
Like many FOX series, Justice took a break during the World Series (after five episodes). When it returned, FOX began airing it on Monday nights, opposite NBC’s popular Heroes and replacing Vanished (which was moved to Friday nights). Three episodes have aired on Monday nights. The most recent episode drew only 4.2 million households, about half of lead-in Prison Break’s audience.
With that in mind, its no surprise that FOX has announced that the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced courtroom drama has been pulled from the schedule effective immediately. The network isn’t calling it a cancellation right now. The FOX website lists that the show will return on December 11th, but the word is that it will not return for very long or at all.
Eight episodes of Justice have aired thus far and production is expected continue on the rest of the 13 episodes of FOX’s order. There is no word as yet if the series or any individual episodes will be released on DVD or online via FOX’s website.
11/17/06 UPDATE: FOX has officially cancelled Vanished and Justice will instead return on Friday, December 1st. No new word on how long it will continue to air.
I can’t believe that Fox has cancelled a show that I’m starting to like. Fox can be full of well, you know when they cancel their shows. They keep the stupid shows (like “Til’ Death” and “Standoff) on, and cancel the good and intellegent ones like “Justice.” For every new show that Fox is going to put on, they are going to get cancelled, cancelled, cancelled after about 2 to 5 episodes. I’m predicticting that “Til’ Death” will not get a second season, and “Standoff” might have a greater chance of getting cancelled because I heard that “Standoff” has been… Read more »
come on Fox that show was THE BEST!!!!!!you need to bring it back! i loved that show my whole family did.First you took off Reunion and now Justice. im not going to be watching Fox at all anymore. You guys stink!!!!!
This was a dumb move.. they quit “Justice”, but keep “Prison Break”… how many times was that series postponed..
Now i have no reason to watch fox on any night, except america’s most wanted. “Justice” was awesome. the highpriced, fast paced lawyers were a good contrast to any other lawyer show on tv, and the “what really happened” part of the show was the icing on the cake..
what a loss. way to go fox! :smh:
Fox network, I cannot believe that you have given up on JUSTICE. As of now I will not be watching your network. JUSTICE was the only reason you had my attention! JUSTICE is the best show on TV and you took it off air. There are so many WEAK time slots, I just do not get it. What are you all thinking????
This my favorite show of the new season. I feel the main reason it didn’t get more viewers is that they couldn’t find it because it was moved around so much. This show had great plots, great acting and real characters. I watched it and Shark and despite being a James Wood fan, I liked this show much better. So sad to see one of the few good dramas cancelled. Is the studid reality show the only thing we can get on TV? There are some adults out here. That is until we completely turn off our TV.
Well like MANY other viewers, I am disappointed that Fox pulled the plug on Justice. They should have aired it ONE timeslot, given it a year for people to catch on. It was an awesome show and unlike all the other courthouse dramas. The endings were always my favorite part of the show…if it wasn’t for House and Prison Break, I would be another person not watching your network.
My wife and I are very sad to see a non-reality / never-ending-story program go off the air. We were so glad to watch a show that actually wrapped up at the end of an hour, and not stretch on for months with no end insight.
~Justice was the best new show of the season- the only one I would have continued to watch! What are you thinking?
This was definately a good
show, and a great concept/twist. VERY surprised that Fox would cancel it, but it would appear they are only successful at promoting trashy shows and are unsure what do do with a serious drama with some substance.
My husband and I LOVED this show. Other than Shark, we think that “Justice” was one of the BEST new (’06-’07) shows to air this past fall. I don’t really think that Fox put enough emphasis on this new show. I know that the show was NEVER in a good time slot. Please re-consider bringing this good show back, even during the Summer when everything else is a re-run!!!! PLEASE! Thanks!
BRING IT BACK! This is a great show, I have no idea why it would be cancelled. It’s better than the reality crap.
I am very disappointed if Justice was really canceled Please have a heart and bring it back
This is such a horrible decision to cancel a show like this.
My husband and I enjoyed Justice very much! We looked forward to it every week. When they kept moving it around the first thing we thought was they wanted ratings to drop so they could cancel the show and put another medical, or useless reality show on.
To sum it all up, Justice was a EXCELLENT tv show and very, very, very unique!
We are very disappointed of this cancellation of such a BRILLANT show!
I blame half of the American public and mostly FOX for not giving “Justice” a chance to grow. SHAME ON YOU FOX!!!!!!!!
they need to put justice on the air it is a good show and they are hard to find get rid of some of these games show there r to many
