Kevin James and The King of Queens TV show were staples of the CBS schedule for many years. Now, James is back on Monday nights with a new comedy, Kevin Can Wait. Is it a hit in the ratings and a success with viewers? Will it stay on the air and be renewed for a second season? Cancel or keep it?
Kevin Can Wait revolves around Kevin Gable (Kevin James), a newly retired police officer. After 30 years on the force, he’s looking forward to relaxing and spending quality time with his wife (Erinn Hayes) and their young kids (Mary-Charles Jones and James DiGiacomo). That plan goes awry when his elder daughter (Taylor Spreitler) and her fiance (Ryan Cartwright) move in. As a result, Kevin’s retirement dreams get put on hold. Kevin’s retiree friends are played by Leonard Earl Howze, Gary Valentine, and Lenny Venito.
The series debuted on September 19th with a 2.58 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 11.08 million viewers. That was a very good start. The second episode saw an increase in the demo rating and a slight decline in viewers. The third installment fell in both categories and the fourth dropped again, registering a 2.11 in the demo with 8.70 million. While the ratings for Kevin Can Wait are still quite healthy, it is a bit concerning that they are continuing to fall.
It’s also worth noting that the show’s real test will come once its high-rated lead-in, The Big Bang Theory, moves back to Thursday nights. Starting October 24th, Kevin will shift to 8pm and will be expected to draw viewers to the CBS schedule. That’s a much tougher position to be in, particularly for a new show that hasn’t had much time to build a devoted audience.
For now, Kevin Can Wait is in no danger of being cancelled. CBS just ordered nine more installments, bringing the first season tally to 22 episodes. Will there be a second season? That will all depend on how well the series performs in the next several months without a strong lead-in. It will likely be a struggle.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Kevin Can Wait TV show? Do you think that it should stay on the air or, that CBS should replace it with something else? Cancel or keep it?
wait a long time before I again. The first twenty minutes was too gruesome to watch. The daughter with SPACE…so much…you won’t believe the SPACE between her ears was the last straw!
Stop Hating on this show it is trying its best if you do not like the show do not watch it nobody forcing you
I think the wife is horrible! Love him better on King of Queens!
Cancel this show and bring back Doug and Carrie
This is a horrible attempt to remake the EXACT show King of Queens was. Obese husband with wife WAY out of his league? Check. Narcissist that screws over everyone, including his own family, for personal gain? Check. Jokes at the expense of others and never just because they are funny? Check. Buffoon that cannot do anything right? Check. Then run down the laundry list of the same cast members. Good lord, just go watch King of Queens if you want to see this junk. Same show, same jokes, same actors… why on earth is anyone paying for this to be… Read more »
Love it!! Great show. A show the whole
Family can watch. Super funny.
The Show is Funny and it is trying their best so i would have to say keep it because the show brings back comdies that is worth watching
The wife is a horrible actress, they don’t even seem married…it’s their chemistry that makes this show just okay.
They should have done a Return to Kings of Queens with Leah Remini and with kids. The cast is not cohesive at all. They don’t blend. Except for his crazy brother. And he is a former character from King of Queens. Unfortunately, I would say Cancel it. Not much thought on how to bring Kevin James back to TV, was made. King of Queens is much better. I ‘ll watch the reruns.
This show is a waste of time and is nothing more than King of Queens without him delivering packages!
Waste of time, he is playing the same part as in King of Queens.
Please cancel. This guy isn’t even funny.
I CANT wait to MISS this!
It’s awful. I can’t wait to see it cancelled. And on the day CBS renewed it, I decided to dump it.
I really enjoy the show . No it’s not the most funny show on television currently. There actually feels like a cohesion situation iff I’m being honest . The mesh between the characters doesn’t seem to be there.
Just my opinion
