Tonight, USA Network aired the series finale of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Many who work on the TV show hope that’s not necessarily true.
Last Summer, it was rumored that the cop drama might be cancelled following a season of lackluster ratings. USA instead opted to bring Criminal Intent back for a 10th and final season of eight episodes. To cap the show’s run, it was also announced that Kathryn Erbe and Vincent D’Onofrio, who left abruptly at the start of season nine, would return.
Though USA has been calling season 10 the end of Criminal Intent, we learned in May that executive producer Dick Wolf wasn’t throwing in the towel just yet. He told reporters that he hoped, “enough fans will come out so the powers that be reconsider their decision.” Later, executive producer Chris Brancato noted that, “Yeah, I think if viewers are enthused about Vincent and Katie coming back I don’t see why it has to be the final season.” The ratings have shown improvement.
Erbe is also hopeful that tonight won’t be the end and would be to season 11. She recently told TV Guide, “I know that I would be there in a heartbeat. I’m fairly positive that Vincent [D’Onofrio] feels the same way. Everyone was really hoping that, in the 11th hour, we’d get some word… Whether the fans are able to muscle us back or not, who knows. They have amazing power.”
Regardless of what happens, Erbe is grateful for the chance to return to the series. She said, “I just know that these eight episodes were like a gift. To be able to come back and have closure with the crew and the cast and everyone… If that happens again, fantastic. It would just be like icing on the cake.”
If the series doesn’t come back, the actress feels that viewers will like this farewell to Goren and Eames better than their departure in 2010. Erbe notes, “I know we set out to make it satisfying… The one thing I know you’re going to see is that Goren and Eames are on much better, more solid ground. Healthier, happier and in good shape.”
If she never gets to play the role again, Erbe imagines that her character would continue solving cases with Goren and just continue to live her life.
What do you think? Would you like to see Law & Order: Criminal Intent continue?

The show should continue with the current cast . It’s too good to lose!
Please don’t take it away I love it, You took the other show at least leave this one
I love this show and would hate to see it end, especially if the cast wants to continue. I liked seeing Robert Goren looking happy at the end of the finale. His character has been so tortured over the years. It would be a shame to stop it now that he seems to be at peace with himself!
Are you kidding. D’onofrio and Erbe are 2 of the best actors working in television. He is the modern day Columbo. How fitting, if this is the end, that Peter Falk died this week. TV executives! Stop taking the really good shows off air and figure out how to better promote them to new audiences. This is a terrific show. Please, bring it back!
There are few good television shows today. “Reality” shows have taken over where there once was serious drama. Goren and Eames are serious drama and have excellent story lines. Vincent is an excellent actor, as is Erbe. this show must go on! I never tire of the twists and turns and the multitude of suspects they bring to every show. In a word, extraordinary!
Vincent dOnifrio gives me a reason to have a tv. some smart network must run CI i could watch Goran 4 ever
This is the best of the L & O series but only when it is with Gorman & Eames. They are the best part of the show. I never understood why it wnet off a main channel & was so thirlled when I found it on USA. I pray it doesn’t end. The end of this and Friday Night Lights, I just can’t understand
My wife and I love the show and hope it is renewed. It was a breath of fresh air to see Eames and Goren return. The two have one of the better working relationships of any show. Great dialogue, great charachters.
Love it and hope to see more in the future.
My husband and I love the show. Goren is a very complex character and is just starting to do better. We hope that a season 11 happens and we get to see him continue to develop. It would also be interesting to see if he and Eames become romantic.
….PLEASE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cried more for the shows end than I did for Marley and Me. And that sucker was sad.
Vince is the very best, he leaves Goldblum whatever his name was in the DUST.
Some of us very much want this show to continue, as THERE IS NOTHING BETTER ON THE EFFING TV!!!!!!
There, I feel better now. Katie and Vince are the best there is on TV! 🙂
This has been my favorite TV show from day one. Vince and Kathryn are like a part of my family, and they are the best actors by far. PLEASE bring it back!
Most defintiely: Bring them back! We were disappointed whe Goren and Eames left the show. Excited to seem them back. And terribly frustrated to see them leave after 8 shows.
I do love this show and never miss it if at all possible! I appreciated the fact that the main characters seemed to be more together this year with no sense of stress in their relationship…more of the partnership they used to have. I will be happy to jump on
whatever bandwagon I need to if we are able to bring them back!
I’m sorry to see the show end! Have followed thru all the changes- good and bad-. Loved Goren and Eames the best! Their chemistry is so awesome!Their characters play off each other so well and the writers have done an excellent job bringing out Vincent’s superb acting skills! I saw the today show where they both were on this week. It sounded like Vincent was ready to move on? Maybe a burnout here playing such an intense character?
