Tonight, USA Network aired the series finale of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Many who work on the TV show hope that’s not necessarily true.
Last Summer, it was rumored that the cop drama might be cancelled following a season of lackluster ratings. USA instead opted to bring Criminal Intent back for a 10th and final season of eight episodes. To cap the show’s run, it was also announced that Kathryn Erbe and Vincent D’Onofrio, who left abruptly at the start of season nine, would return.
Though USA has been calling season 10 the end of Criminal Intent, we learned in May that executive producer Dick Wolf wasn’t throwing in the towel just yet. He told reporters that he hoped, “enough fans will come out so the powers that be reconsider their decision.” Later, executive producer Chris Brancato noted that, “Yeah, I think if viewers are enthused about Vincent and Katie coming back I don’t see why it has to be the final season.” The ratings have shown improvement.
Erbe is also hopeful that tonight won’t be the end and would be to season 11. She recently told TV Guide, “I know that I would be there in a heartbeat. I’m fairly positive that Vincent [D’Onofrio] feels the same way. Everyone was really hoping that, in the 11th hour, we’d get some word… Whether the fans are able to muscle us back or not, who knows. They have amazing power.”
Regardless of what happens, Erbe is grateful for the chance to return to the series. She said, “I just know that these eight episodes were like a gift. To be able to come back and have closure with the crew and the cast and everyone… If that happens again, fantastic. It would just be like icing on the cake.”
If the series doesn’t come back, the actress feels that viewers will like this farewell to Goren and Eames better than their departure in 2010. Erbe notes, “I know we set out to make it satisfying… The one thing I know you’re going to see is that Goren and Eames are on much better, more solid ground. Healthier, happier and in good shape.”
If she never gets to play the role again, Erbe imagines that her character would continue solving cases with Goren and just continue to live her life.
What do you think? Would you like to see Law & Order: Criminal Intent continue?

This is the greatest show ever and my favorite – PLEASE don’t let it end here. Bring back more, more, and more!
I was devestated to hear that this was the final season. It’s by far, my favorite show. The depth of the characters (Goren and Eames) pack a dynamite punch. I would agree with another post I read that their characters leaving the show when they did, I’m certain had everything to do with the ratings declining. They are the greatest detective duo I’ve watched in a long time. I’ve never written on anything like this before, but I truly was disappointed-deeply that this show was ended. Come on guys, there’s more henious crime in New York to be solved and… Read more »
D’Onofrio is the best !! What a great actor!! Don’t let him go!!
I hope they return. I love watching Goren and Eames together. Criminal Intent is the best of the Law and Order shows!
We LOVE this show. Please bring back Goren and Eames. Law & order CI is a much better option than Law & Order LA.
Looking forward to another season!
Please do not cancel L&O CI! It is a great show! Fellow fan Rhoda I totally agree with you about the romantic vibe between Goren and Eames in the final scene. 🙂
More! Definitely! This show is too good to end and especially since Goren and Eames have returned.
Give me a Season Eleven!
Please , please , DO NOT TAKE Law and Order criminal intent off the air.. love Goren and Eames.. they make the show!! And what ever happened to Law and Order??? Put them all back on and keep them on.. great stories with crimes for them to solve… LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE!! It’s better than all those crazy reality shows about a bunch of stupid nothingness
The show is the best detective show on TV!!! Keep it going. The quality of acting is outstanding!!!
It’s the best “L&O” of the bunch because of Vincent & Katherine’s acting and characters. It’s a staple in our household. I’d be sad to see it go while “L&O-Los Angeles” still gets air time.
DO NOT cancel L&O CI. D’Onofrio is indeed a genius and Wolf (if he watches TV at all) must bemoan the apparent dumbing down of the viewing public that would lead to so-called “L&O” episodes that should leave the original cast members turning in their graves. I watched one episode of the latest L&O incarnation and considered it sheer trash, hardly worthy of the original series. Where is the drama, the characterization, the incredibly creative dialogue and backstories?? I tevo all regular L&O originals – up until the time Jack was forced to step back in favor of that blond… Read more »
Great show. Thanks to actors, crew and writers for a great 8 episodes. Would love to see more!
The last eight episodes were some of the finest. This series should not end. I waited for it every week and even watched the rerun the followng day. LOVE THE SHOW. If it doesn’t continue the network will have made a terrible mistke in my opinion.
Please bring back more episodes of Criminal Intent. Its the only show other than SVU that I still watch on television. I look forward to each week.
Love the actors. D’Onofrio and Erbe work so well together. Not sure about the captain. He is nothing to get excited about.
Go on Dick Wolf, more CI!!!!
Bring them back for another season…. Drop everything so that I don’t miss the show. I was overjoyed when Vincent and Kathryn was brought back. The BEST Law and Order series ever.
