We all saw it coming. One of the most anticipated TV shows of the new fall season, Lone Star, has been cancelled after two episodes.
Lone Star centers around a handsome conman (James Wolk) who lives a double life to swindle investors and an oil tycoon family. He starts to have regrets and struggles to balance both lives and keep everybody happy. Others in the series are Jon Voight, Adrianne Palicki, Bryce Johnson, David Keith, Eloise Mumford, and Mark Deklin.
The FOX series debuted last week to a very disappointing 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.1 million total viewers. Last night, despite several days of buzz and campaigning to get new viewers, the ratings fell even lower to a 1.0 rating in the demo and 3.23 million viewers. As was the case in week one, many people who started watching tuned out before the episode was over. For whatever reason, it just didn’t click.
Lone Star has been cancelled effective immediately and the three remaining unaired episodes have been shelved. There’s no word if FOX will get around to releasing the remaining episodes at some point in the future.
Last week, the cast and crew were shooting the sixth installment. Production has now been shut down and it’s unclear if that episode was completed.
Lone Star’s spot will be filled by the season three premiere of Lie to Me.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see Lone Star be cancelled? If you watched, where do you think it went wrong?
UPDATE: Subsequent reports have indicated that there are six completed episodes with four left unaired.

I am SO sad to see “Lonestar” go. I thought it was thought provoking and brought up some real interpersonal issues, with a twist, of course. Now, it will go to cable no doubt. Darn. “Lie to Me” is good, too – but “Lonestar” really did ‘outshine’ many sophmoric television being presented these days.
Great acting, too – darn!
loved the show!!! i don’t think they gave it much time and/or advertising. i only caught the first episode by chance and loved it and made sure to see episode 2. when i went to watch episode 3, i couldn’t find it. i liked it so much that i had to get online to see if i forgot the date or if the days had been switched…..sad now.
we were really looking forward to watching this show…so sorry it was canned…not sure why…??? I was starting to tell my friends to watch….if anything, it started out to be a bit predictable, but was taking some interesting turns!
I was really getting into this new series Lone Star……And come to find out that its canceled. This is disappointing. It was unreal to see how he lived to lives but entertaining too. Kinda hard to believe so many didn’t finish watching the show as it was unique. Hopefully in the future they will make another show similar to this if not like it I personally thought it was show with growing potential. I will definitely miss Lone Star!
I am so disappointed that Lone Star was cancelled – I was getting hooked. I don’t know why Fox keeps cancelling good ideas and just looking at stupid ratings. I know you are there to SELL but come on, differentiate yourself from other networks!!!
Please give the people who like your shows, even in minority, the possibility to watch them online.
Thanks!
This show was one of my favorites, FOX made a big mistake. Maybe they should learn to be patient as previously said. Such a good show and to see it canceled was a huge dissapointment.
Fox made a big mistake. I thought the first two episodes were great and was looking forward to this series. The quest for instant satisfaction and immediate high ratings is moronic. During a more intelligent era shows were given time to improve performance and generate an audience following. Many shows that later went on to be come multi-year successes were highly flawed in their first season What we have today is the supremacy of marketing idiots without patience or understanding.
I am very very disappointed that Lone Star is cancelled. My boyfriend and I loved just the previews before it came out, we couldnt wait to see what would happen next! It was a bad bad move! They didnt even give the show a chance! Why not finsh out the season? Makes no sence. I think they should bring back lone star, it would be a good move if they did!
I am extremely disappointed in Lonestar being cancelled. It was a show that I (21 yrs old), my mother (50 yrs old) and grandmother (72 yrs old) could all watch and enjoy. It is a shame that such a great show, with a VERY cute actor, would be cancelled after only 2 shows; come on Fox 50… give it a little more time!
It was the first show I deleted from my “record” list. I can’t root for the “bad guy” to continue to screw people.
I loved the show and I am very disappointed that it is cancelled. It was refreashing to see a tv show that actually had a plot that wasn’t all about sex and wasn’t full of crude jokes. I don’t think showing only two episodes is giving it a fair chance.
My husband and I have very few shows that we both enjoy. I was looking forward to having a TV night together. You blew it FOX
Lone Star was my favorite new show this season BY FAR!!!! Why not change the day and time to see if it would do better since they already have the episodes? This is why I don’t watch much prime time TV, the shows I love always get canceled in the middle of the season. I think I’m going to stick w/ reality tv, they at least finish the season!!! Very disappointing!!!!
My wife and I are VERY disappointed about this. We were searching for the show and had the series recorded on the DVR. Very surprised when no new shows were showing up. Compared to other shows that have ran for a long time…….. Well needless to say we are disappointed!
What???? This show was great! One of the first shows in a loooong time that caught and kept my interest for the entire episode..i’m so suprised!
