The Tiffany Network is still with her. CBS has renewed its Madam Secretary TV show for a fifth season. This was a real squeaker. With the series’ bottom-of-the-barrel demo performance, as well as its declining total audience size, since it already has a decent syndication package, the cancellation chances were very real.
A CBS political drama, Madam Secretary stars Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Bebe Neuwirth, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe. The drama follows the shrewd, determined Elizabeth McCord (Leoni). As U.S. Secretary of State, she battles office politics, while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals.
Madam Secretary: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of Madam Secretary is averaging a 0.65 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.20 million viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 26% and down by 25%, respectively. When we sort the 25 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking, it ranks 24th in the demo (behind Saturday night’s Ransom) and rises to only 16th place, when sorted by average total viewership.

I absolutely adore this show. It is my absolute go too for after work, sick days, relaxing, anything other than background noise. It is a real shame they judge the viewings by the “live” show. They keep saying the 18 to 49 age bracket viewing is declining and being part of that bracket, many people (myself included) of that age group refuse to pay for cable which establishes the “viewers” they base their decisions upon. Many are getting rid of it knowing they are saving hundreds of dollars every month just by buying the shows they want to watch rather… Read more »

Well Done!! I LOVE this show and the entire cast! MS for POTUS!!!
I just hope we don’t have to do a write in campaign to get the next season approved too!
absolutely …..one of my absolute favorite of all tv shows..
My husband and I are very glad that Madame Secretary has been renewed for a fifth season. We think the show is moving and thought provoking, very well written with a wonderful cast. We hope it keeps getting renewed as long as it still has something new to say.
I love this show. I’m surprised that it’s doing so poorly in the ratings. I really hope it gains some audience members next season.
Love this show. It’s smart and fast paced. So glad it’s coming back
Excellent show. Never gets stale. Love the characters. I cannot believe the viewer number. We watch on Amazon after the show has aired. Do they count these?
I have never understood the low ratings for this great show! I am so excited about the renewal.

Thank you thank you thank you for renewing “Madam Secretary!” It’s one of the more intelligent, entertaining shows out there and I’m so happy to hear this news!
Madam Secretary is my favorite show. It is not only the role as Secretary of State that interests me, but the personal side of life that makes her a whole person. As a retired professional, I do identify a whole lot with her and admire how she is successful and how she handles her mistakes, honestly.
I love Madame Secretary. However, I think the late time and intervention of sports shows makes it harder to watch. Please try an earlier time.
Love this show!
