Tonight, CBS aired the final episode of Medium. After seven seasons and 130 episodes, it was time to say goodbye to Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette), her husband Joe (Jake Weber), their children and friends. The series finale of Medium is called “Me Without You.”
As the episode begins, we see Allison having an evening phone conversation with Joe who’s at the start of a flight home from Hawaii. Later, Allison is awoken by another call from Joe. His flight is arriving early and then it hits turbulence, and crashes into the ocean. The episode flashes forward seven years and we learn that Joe indeed died. Allison is now a lawyer involved in a big drug case. Her boss, the district attorney, is killed by the leader of a drug cartel who’s on trial. Manuel Devalos (Miguel Sandoval) is the mayor and Lee Scanlon (David Cubitt) is the chief of detectives.
Allison begins to dream about Joe and realizes that he’s actually been alive in Mexico with amnesia. The drug lord has been using him to transport narcotics across the border. She ultimately decides to throw the case so that she can reunite with her husband. She and daughter Marie drive to Mexico and she is reunited with him, finally.
Unfortunately, it’s a dream. She awakes back in the present and Joe is there, as a ghost. He did die in the crash and he tried to send a message to Allison about how good her life will still be, even without him. Unfortunately, her mind couldn’t accept it and concocted a way for him to still be alive. Joe tells her how much he loves her and that the loss will hurt for a long time but it will get better. Though she pleads for him to stay, he needs to go.
The scene flashes forward to 41 years later. We see a very old Allison, surrounded by photos of her children and grandchildren. She dies peacefully. Allison appears as her younger self and looks at her now dead body. Joe appears to her, just as he had been. He waited, of course. She asks, “Do I get a kiss?” He replies, “From now, until the end of time.” The two embrace and kiss. They are together, forever more.
The episode ends with brief scenes from the show’s seven year history and each castmember silently saying goodbye to the camera and faithful viewers.
What do you think? Was this a satisfying conclusion to Medium? What did you like or dislike about it?

I hated the series finale.
The show was to based off the real life Allison… Who is alive and well and is traveling around the world helping people.
i have watched the show from day one.. and I was sadly disappointed with the end. Did they have a child write the script?
Her family is alive and well too.
Ghosthisper was cancelled. Now Medium.
I have to say I am not watching any of the new shows that has replaced the shows they have cancelled.
Why????
Yup…another good show gone forever. I too hated the finale. Seems like they tried to just “tie up” all the ends. Why did Joe have to die? is that so Allison could get the money from his insurance and go to college? What a let down. CBS- fire those writers cause they failed us. Allison and Joe may have walked off to heaven together but you left us viewers in hell as we try to find another show worthy of our time.
looks like i will be doing a lot of book reading next season.
These people were my friends. The actors got along so well on screen, I grew to love them as a real family. They were normal…with normal problems and issues. Fought now and then, and grew closer. Yes, its just a show….but I will truely miss them. I wish Joe didn’t have to die, but considering the nature of the show, paranormal stuff had to happen for it to end, right? Well, now the pretty girls who played the roles so well, have a chance to be kids in real life and grow up. And who knows, I bet we see… Read more »
I thought that was a really sad episode. It was horrible to have joe die like that.I didnt even know that was the last episode until the end.i love this show and now its over.It could have ended on a more happy note and not let everyone feel completely depressed at the end.I will miss this show alot. Thanks for a great few series.
I could not believe that my favorite show was ending. I just found out right before I watched it. Despite all the paranormal activity on the show, the family relationships were the most realistic of any show on TV right now. The Mom looked normal and not some drop dead gorgeous model, the Dad is struggling with jobs, etc. The loving partnership of the parents, the challenges of teen years, all these things made me LOVE the characters. I cried and cried at the end because it is all over for that show and they were both dead. I am… Read more »

I can’t believe it!!! I am so upset!! This episode was horrible. I am such a fan. I still can’t believe it.
I had no idea Medium was being cancelled (i guess i must live under a rock)!! I was totally confused watching it and thought what is going on?! Then it comes to the end and I asked my daughter if she thought this was the last episode. Sure looks like it she said. I thought noooooooooo this can’t be happening!! I decided the cast must have grown tired of doing all the episodes and called it quits. Then I bring up the website so see what was going on and was FLABBERGASTED that the stupid network had cancelled it!!!!!! What?!… Read more »
I agree with everyone who was disappointed with the final episode of Medium. Moreso than the script being sad (which bothered me too), I was upset just at the lazy writing that was allowed to pass as a so-called “finale” to such a fine show. The opening scene where Joe calls and then calls back began like many other episodes and and succeeded in grabbing your attention and seeing Allison as a full-fledged lawyer was true to the plot (I remember the talk she and Joe had one day about her going to law school) but after the opening scenes… Read more »
oh, i’m so sad, i didnt know this was the last episode, it was an ugly and bad surprise
i have been crying all the show because joe’s dead
i really like this show, and i think the love of joe and allice was an example until the end.
regards from Chile.
Long time fan of the Medium. I had no clue it was ending so soon. The last episode was an emotional roller coaster. I wish it would have included more of the family. And have shown Joe visiting each of the girls dreams. I am truly heart-broken that this show has been cancelled. My family loved it. There are so few shows that you can watch with your family anymore. I’m so disappointed.
I loved the ending. I cried with my 13 year old daughter. We really cried because it was a loss for us. It was a show we had watched together since she was 6. It was our thing to cuddle and watch it together for years. We felt like we were losing people we knew. It was nice that we got to see what happened to them in the future. I am glad that it was not cancelled, and just gone. I will miss the entire cast. I thought they were all great actors.
Knowing Medium was showing their finale, I had to tape it!! I have such a broken heart now; isn’t there anything we could have done to keep it going? Another great series shot to hell……….
ahh men this sucks tv isn’t tv no more i watched this show faithfully every week to this happen it bugs me , i set my dvr to record to see this . well i guess this is how CBS say thank you , but we have enough money now so buzz off. i’ll never watch a CBS show or even NBC show for that matter they don’t care for fans no more it’s just business.
Crap ending. Not as crap as the ending of Prison Break – but still really bad.
It was obviously the network no longer gave a damn.
