At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

I LOVE D SHOW AND THINK U ALL SHOULD HAVE A NEXT SEASON
I bought Mercy’s season 1 on DVD and just loved it. Too bad the series was cancelled, I was sad to find this out.
It was an awesome show. it was nice to see the soldier to civilian transition. my daughter and I were just talking about the show. it didn’t have a chance to make it big cause a lot of people didn’t know about it. I think TNT. or USA should pick it up. or at least make a final one to close all the loose ends its left. it is very sad.
I am really sad to know the show has been cancelled. I am a nurse and it was really nice to see a show that followed the nursing side of the house. It was a great cast and great storyline…and you left us hanging!
I just watched the whole first series on hulu in the last two weeks. I got so in to it and couldn’t stop watching the episodes. Then after I watched the 22 episode went to see when I would be able to watch the next season and found out there would be no second season and was so mad! I loved this show. Too bad they are not airing it. I would have loved to see where things went from here for all the characters in the show.
Hi,
im from Malaysia and i loved MERCY and all the cast, including Dan Harris.. PLEASE continue with Season 2! so many answer needed. i need to know what happen next, what happen to Mike, to Chris and Vronica.
this is one good show. pls reconsider to continue..
I LOvED Mercy!
Sucks that it isn’t on anymore. Some other network should pick it up because it was a great show. I am pissed that trauma was cancelled too! Both shows were fantastic, clever, exciting and witty!
I think the numbers were all wrong because I do not usually watch shows regularly and I ordered a dvr just so I could record those 2 shows to prevent me from missing a second of it!
This is one of the best dramédia that i ever seen 🙂 It’s sad, I only just discovered it last week, and i saw all the 22 episodes, and i love this show, and i was really suprised when i read this, the show had everything to succed!
hugs from portugal :’)
The show was great i had it on netflix and literally watched all 22 episodes in 2 days
i loved it. How could they just leave us hanging? Please come out with dvd or sonething…
Love love love this show! Absolutely going to miss it soooo much! Funny, engaging, real to an extent, and interesting to see the transition from military to hospital worker. Something so people face. Bring it back please?!
I loved the show. Sadly enough, I only just discovered it this past month. Had I known about it when it originally aired I would definitely insisted that they keep the show. The least you(NBC) could have done was to end the final episode with some conclusion. That was really a terrible way to end the show. Even if untended, make an episode that shows how the show would’ve ended. Or better yet, post a letter that states what would’ve happened.
I didn’t even know the show existed until I found it on Netflix this year!! I am so mad that there wasn’t a second season. I think this is one of the best shows I have watched in a long time I watched all the episodes in 3 days. I would love to see more…and really pissed off that there isn’t more! Especially since it wasn’t even an ending it was just a season finalle. You can do so much more with this show!!!!! Very disappointed
Loved the show; loved the cast. I’m a guy who works in Financial Industry. Normally these shows appeal to women and those in medical field primarily, but this was smart, well written and actors were great. Loved the characters and storyline. Networks need to figure out that there are hundreds of channels out there; plus Facebook and other stuff that cause people to lose interest. They MUST begin expecting lower ratings than expecting every show to be a Two and a Half Men or Office or whatever. THINK outside the box, morons. ASK THE PUBLIC BEFORE you cancel. USE SOCIAL… Read more »
