At the start of the season, we wondered which new NBC medical drama had the best chance at survival — Mercy or Trauma. It was hard to decide but now, they’ve both been cancelled anyway.
Mercy follows the lives of three very different nurses at Mercy Hospital in Jersey City. The cast includes Taylor Schilling, Jaime Lee Kirchner, Michelle Trachtenberg, James Tupper, Diego Klattenhoff, Guillermo Diaz, James LeGros, James Van Der Beek, and Delroy Lindo.
The medical drama got off to a pretty poor start last September, attracting a 2.3 rating in the all-important 18-49 demographic and 8.25 million total viewers. Unfortunately, viewership fell even lower from there.
Despite the ratings, NBC ordered a full season of episodes, likely because the network needed the original programming. Though NBC’s Primetime Entertainment President Angela Bromstad said she liked the show creatively, she noted that the show’s ratings had to improve for it to survive.
The ratings didn’t improve. The most recent episode attracted only a 1.1 rating in the demo and 4.01 million viewers.
To no surprise, the Mercy TV show’s now been cancelled. The 22nd and final episode aired last Wednesday, May 12th. Unfortunately, it wasn’t intended to be a series finale and didn’t wrap up the show.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Mercy won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to have seen happen?

The final episode left me wondering who was dead. You need to bring it back! I also like the connection to the war and ptsd. There are several directions for the show to go in the future. I hope it survives.
NBC stinks! Not bad enough killing Trauma, now they’ve done away with Mercy another great show. All the stupid reality shows keep on rolling. No offense to anyone, but these decisions based on ratings are just a reflection of the intelligence level of the average American viewer. We get what we deserve!
Actually, in retrospect, I don’t think they cancelled the show because it wasn’t getting the ratings, but because of the expense of the show. Take, for example, the Jay Leno show: if it had succeeded, it would have saved NBC millions of dollars, and then there would have been a rush to put that type of show on, ala, the crappy so-called reality shows that are infesting the networks. Before its all over, there won’t be any quality drama shows on network channels. Mark my words! It’s been a long time since a network was willing to allow a show… Read more »
I loved the show and I’m sad – I looked forward to Wednesday nights…..
Yeah, i´m sad, so sad. Hate NBC so much
Oh No, I just read in TV Guide that last Wednesday’s program was the season finally.
Now this too has been cancelled, please, please bring this one back. It was a great
drama, great time, great actors???? Why?
Loosing Interest in NBC
NBC needs help. Mercy was a hot show, it was real and easy to relate to. Plus the last episode was just getting good. I don’t understand why NBC likes to get it’s viewers hooked on a show and then bounce. I’m done with these guys.
Actually, I won’t miss the show.
so dumb that this show got cancelled, bad bad choice nbc
SOOOO mad this show is cancelled!
I am not a hospital drama fan usually, but I thought this one was the best of the lot of the ones I’ve seen over the last 15-20 years since St. Elsewhere. It had good character development and story lines. I am saddened to see it go and hope maybe one of the cable networks will pick it up. It’s worth saving.
I was totally engrossed in Mercy. The actors who played each of the characters made them come to life3 and the writing was honest and real in such a way that people could really relate to each of them. The fact that Mercy has been cancelled, especially in the way that it was leaving everything hanging really sucks. NBC must have it’s perverbial head of its perverbial butt!!!! My husband started watching it to and when that happens a show has to be good for him to get hooked on a series. I agree with the other comments and truly… Read more »
This was a great show that was just beginning to develop the characters. The failure of Mercy and other shows like it is lack of promotion on NBC’s part and the lack of confidence that viewers have in the network. Why waste your time watching a show and getting interested in the people and plot line when the odds are it will be cancelled. THATS WHY PEOPLE AREN’T WATCHING! Get a clue NBC and start putting your money and energy into the promotion of the shows you have and not just the development of the next seasons line up of… Read more »
Why? It’s better than some of the other shows on. It was good. Give it a chance. Move it to a different time slot if need be.
******* douchebag *****.
