Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

Honestly I’m not surprised it was cancelled because I didn’t see the plot being much more than a 3-4hr long movie. However I will miss it as it was very well done. As far as strong female leads in action shows, there are quite a few out there on other channels like USA, TNT, Syfy, etc. I do wish they had stuck with it and included more side stories to supplement it and help it along.
Of course they cancelled it. It was an intelligently written, exciting show — with no gratuitous sex scenes. No wonder the American public is getting dumber and dumber.
I can’t believe they canceled this show. I thought for sure there would be a second, third, forth and so on. Ashley Judd is a great actress and the cast she had was AWESOME, this show was both thrilling and exciting and I am still hoping someone comes around and gets it back on, I mean, what happened to BECCA ??? I am sure we would all like to know.
It was on FRIDAY, what did they expect?? It was a really riveting story, one of the few shows with actual talented actors and smart writing. Do we really need to dumb down MORE TV for the masses?
Dang. I liked this show, but the story was sort of over and I don’t know where they could go. Maybe if they had taken the son’s shirt off more.
nooooooooooooo, really?! i was a huge fan of this show. Im from Venezuela and i was just beginning to download the chapters i had left when i saw this. Instead of keeping series like Body of Proof they should have kept Missing. Im devastated…
How could you cancel This great program? I thought Missing had a good story behind it. You can’t just reel us in and leave us hanging .Oh I’m mistaken you just did.
Why stopping Series 2 of Missing? This was the best tv serial ever transmitted in Italy. I watched all the 10 episodes with my family, and we were sure a second season was on the make, after the questionable end of first season. Instead they cancel it? Damn, that’s a sad news. We can start a petition, or start the idea of crowdsourcing in tv series. If 6 millions watched the final episode in USA, and considering this serial has gone all over the world (included my Italy). If it has 12 millions of followers, and each one shares $10,… Read more »
My husband and I both were fans of this exciting and interesting series. Can’t understand why shows are canceled without the courtesy of a conclusion, leaving viewers with no closure. If the network doesnt want to do a second season, at least give us a real ending as a replacement show after the season is over. And I agree totally that most of the viewing public are morons!
this was the only tv i watch. not enough female leads in the action genre.
I loved Missing. I guess there wasn’t enought sex to sell it.
Agree with other comments below!!! Devastated !! I absolutely love this show and can’t believe it was cancelled!!! In my area, “Missing” (ABC) was at 7:00 p.m. followed by “Person of Interest” and “The Mentalist” (CBS). Fabulous night for excellent TV and looked forward to it !!!!. Rerun last season or the first episodes so new viewers can understand what it is about……… Because if they tried watching it in mid-season, they were lost and probably didn’t stay with it.
GREAT SHOW !!! BRING IT BACK!!!!
Canceling “Missing” is just more proof that commercial television is run by moronic MEN who can’t stand to watch women be powerful. The low ratings prove that the average American doesn’t have the intelligence to follow an intelligent plot which requires more thought each week than “What’s to eat at the next commercial?” Shame on you, ABC.
I felt each episode was good and looked forward to the next. So disappointed that you chose to cancel. Even my husband liked it and he is hard to please.
One of the best tv series and ABC canceled. Please try again with a second season in a better time slot. I am sure the serie will get much better rates. Congratulations to all the actors. We also enjoy the different locations. Many thanks in advance.
