All for one, but three is all. Digital Spy (DS) reports the upcoming third season of BBC America and BBC One‘s The Musketeers TV series will be its last. The BBC has not yet officially announced the swashbuckling series is cancelled.
The 17th Century action-drama, inspired by Alexandre Dumas’ novel, The Three Musketeers, stars Tom Burke as Athos, Santiago Cabrera as Aramis, Howard Charles as Porthos, and Luke Pasqualino as d’Artagnan. The actors issued statements to Digital Spy, in which they reflect on their time on the ending series, thank their audience for tuning in, and even tease season three of The Musketeers.
Here is more, from DS
“My Musketeers adventure was truly an incredible experience, which will live with me forever,” said Pasqualino. “I had the most amazing time exploring this beautiful world with even more beautiful people.
“I feel very sad to see its end but have every confidence that the fans will love viewing it as much as we enjoyed making it. Huge thanks to all who made the show such a pleasurable journey and of course, thank you to the fans that saw the show for everything that it was.”
Burke promised that the final series of The Musketeers will explore “a universe that is less stable than the first two”.
“I suppose by that I mean that death and decay are casting a far bigger shadow than ever before from the very first episode,” he said. “And because of that characters come to really examine their motives, and their fears, not only to save France but to find peace within. Time is running out and no-one is getting any younger.”
Cabrera commented: “Three seasons of The Musketeers was a true, action packed adventure, in every sense of the term. I will miss the world of Dumas, these rich characters, and many of the friendships made along the way.
“A big thank you to the fans of the show, you’re the ones that kept us going strong. Hope you enjoy this third and final season as much as the first two. Your support has been wonderful. It’s all yours now.”
Charles also expressed his appreciation for the show’s loyal fans, adding: “The Musketeers has been a truly wonderful experience, an enlightening challenge and a memorable three seasons.
“These characters will never cease to educate us on the notion of Liberty, Fraternity and Equality. They will live forever in our hearts and minds. A huge thank you to our fans of old and new, hope you enjoy the final season. Your loyalty and support is not lost on us. All for one…”
In the upcoming last season of The Musketeers, Rupert Everett plays the villainous Parisian Governor Feron. The actor told DS he loved being on the series, adding, “The actors were all brilliant – as were the directors. It was hard work but fun. We were on location in the Czech Republic which is stunning and Prague is incredible. It was a hot Summer, so doubly great!”
The Musketeers is a BBC Drama Production for BBC One, co-produced by BBC America and BBC Worldwide. Series creator Adrian Hodges is lead writer. The Musketeers is executive produced by Jessica Pope, with Colin Wratten producing.
What do you think? Should The Musketeers TV show end after its third season or should it be renewed? Let us know, below.
This is by far the best series of this time and I am so very sad that they are canceling it. I loved especially the first series, because of the development of characters – the focus was on characters and story, not so much on sets and battling. I will miss the beauty, wit and talent of all the main actors, the feminism in them (love you writers and producers so much for that). Really sad that they are canceling this show. I wish everybody who created this masterpiece a good and happy life.
I loved the book as a youngster and the show is filled with everything you can ask for ,action, drama and a bit of fun at times, what more can you ask for? I would love to see it continue.
This is a wonderful series! It’s smart, funny, accurate, and filled with adventure. I hope there is a chance The Musketeers will be renewed. It’s refreshing from other tv series.
The musketeers is a fabulous show and should not be canceled.
I just finished watching the entirety of season three and understand them ending it as they did. No spoilers here, but I still feel as if there is, at the very least, an opportunity to do a two or three hour special somewhere down the line. I hope they will consider it. The story and the characters are too beautiful to leave behind completely. There is still so much story to tell.
Please do not end this show, it is a very moving and enjoyable show, that shows a glimpse of what it was like in that time period.. I love the musketeers and the persons doing it are supperve. Please do not cancel it, it would be a great loss.
Please do not cancel this show!
Great acting, historical drama, with comic relief, beautiful settings, and wonderful characters!!
Keep it going!!
Every time I find a favorite series to look forward to, it gets canceled. The Musketeers is one of those special shows that has everything that makes you keep coming for more each week, including great storylines & superb acting. I sincerely hope that The Musketeers somehow is renewed or picked up for a season 4 & beyond.
sad to see this show go. i looked forward to each season greedily. if we must say good-bye, thank you BBC for at least behaving honorable like the musketeers and giving the creative parties (and actors) the chance to send our heroes out as they deserve. Their heads (and swords) held high, and not just limping away into the unknown.
thank you for the three great years we were given.
I love this show! Please don’t cancel. I bought Hulu just to watch it. Bring it back and promote it! Put it back on BBC! I guarantee people will watch because of the actors who play the Musketeers and the rest of the regular cast–not who the bad guy is…I am a history teacher and any show that can peak interest that is as good as this one should be promoted and supported. I am truly bummed.
This is one of the few series out there for me to watch. I don’t like fantasy type of stories, with dragons and such. Normally I prefer Sci-Fi, but it has to be realistically possible in the future. Most are not. The Musketeers enabled me to like the historic aspect. Of al historic series made, this is (in my opinion) one of the best. Normally, I am not much interested with the history of that century (I am an IT guy), but ‘The Musketeers’ has even enabled me searching on Google for more information about its timeline. Seems that the… Read more »
