News recently surfaced that, in light of NBC’s cancellation of My Name Is Earl, TBS was interested in picking up the show for 13 new episodes. The cable channel currently airs the first three seasons and is scheduled to add season four in the Fall.
Unfortunately, all sides weren’t able to come to an agreement so there won’t be a fifth season of the sitcom. The Hollywood Reporter reports that series creator Greg Garcia and producing studio 20th Century Fox TV decided not pursue the deal after looking at the necessary budget cuts. Meanwhile, the LA Times believes that TBS felt they wouldn’t be able to afford the show and cut the discussions short. Either way, the end result’s the same.
Yesterday, actor Ethan Suplee (Randy on Earl) indicated that the deal was still possible. On Twitter, he wrote, “I heard TBS MIGHT stand for TheBestStation.” Earlier today, he changed his tune and wrote, “TBS isn’t TheBestStation for reviving Earl. Good news is I’m now available to play Shia Laboof’s better looking brother in Transformers 3.”
A little while ago, 20th Century Fox TV issued a statement that said, “Greg Garcia’s brilliant My Name Is Earl kept America laughing for the past four seasons and certainly deserved to continue for many more.”
“While we had hoped to find a way to produce additional episodes for TBS, in the final analysis we simply could not make the economics work without seriously undermining the artistic integrity of the series. As none of us, Greg included, want the show to go out on anything but a high note, we regret that we must put to rest any speculation that Earl will continue.”
“We are grateful to everyone at TBS for their enthusiasm for the series and wish to offer our heartfelt thanks to the cast and crew of My Name Is Earl for their incredible work.”
So, the sitcom is apparently over. Unfortunately, the viewers have been left hanging. If you had your choice, how would you like to see the Earl story concluded?

HEY DUMMIES….BRING EARL BACK!!! HUGE MISTAKE….at least give us an AWESOME Greg Garcia/Jason Lee movie to give us the end on their terms!!!
I too started watching Earl when it was too late. I marathoned all four seasons and was sick to see it end on such a cliffhanger. I can’t agree enough with the dude up top about how much money is thrown at “reality” TV. I hate reality tv. There have been quite a few shows that I absolutely loved that were cut short because some TV exec decided to run a Celebrity Apprentice, or Fatcamp, or America’s got talent garbage type show. I miss “Life”. Charlie Crews was like the best character to come out of a TV show in… Read more »

Someone please pick Earl up for another season! This is the most interesting and most hilarious comedy for come out in recent years!! Needs to be done, if i had the money i’d do it! Let him finish his list!!
I live in the town where you taped the intro, the store front, the car spa and SMACK the wake up collision on Earl. We are deeply moved by this show. It is not only HILARIOUS all the way down to Mr. Turtle but it exemplifies the human spirit. Redemption, reconciliation all these things that we hope for in our communities and ourselves to make co-existing a better place. This is by far a travesty to let this show slip away when there is so much money spent on s**t reality shows that do nothing but waste time and money.… Read more »

I’m really sad about the sudden end of this hilarious sitcom. It may seemed dumb for part-time-watchers, but those who followed the plot all over knew, that all the episodes had some kind of deep sense which made My Name Is Earl not just a story about some thiefs but about some quite good people. I really am going to miss it. It made me think about couple of topics… Thanks for all those episodes.
Really bad, I love the show! Just watching season 4 again (the 3rd time 🙂
Please bring back Earl. Seriously it was one the best shows on tv if not THE BEST. I lived in New Orleans for the past year and a 1/2 and it was completely awful. Then one day rented season one of Earl it kept me from going nuts until I could move back.
FUNNY AS HELL AND NOT TRASH TV A SHOW THAT TRULY LIFTED PEOPLES SPIRITS AND PUT THEM IN A GENUINE GREAT MOOD BECAUSE IT WAS SIMPLY JUST A GREAT SHOW!
