Will the popularity of the 2004 Napoleon Dynamite movie translate into solid ratings for the animated TV series? FOX sure hopes so.
Per the fast affiliate ratings, the new Napoleon Dynamite TV series premiered last night to a very impressive 4.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.5 million total viewers. That was on par with last season’s debut of Bob’s Burgers which aired on January 9th in the same timeslot and also had the advantage of afternoon football helping to pull in viewers.
The second episode, airing at 9:30pm, drew a more realistic 3.6 in the demo with 7.2 million viewers. That was still very positive. Compared to a year ago’s installment of The Cleveland Show, FOX was up by 33% in the timeslot.
It’s very positive that Napoleon was sampled by a high number of viewers but it remains to be seen if they’ll end up returning week after week. After all, last season’s Bob’s Burgers also got off to a big start but the numbers dropped 44% in the second week.
UPDATE: You can follow the first season ratings for Napoleon Dynamite.
What do you think? Will Napoleon Dynamite continue to be a ratings success? Did you watch? Will you keep watching?

I was worried the toon might not live up to the movie but I have only been disappointed with one episode so far. I will continue to record and watch the toon because it’s nice to have such unpredictable humor.
Loved it. Fun for the whole family can’t wait to see it again. I’m already looking forward to the DVD release of the first season.
fox isnt working so i am totally bummed
i will watch these every week for the rest of my life if they continue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved both of them.. Funny can not wait to see it next week.
We loved the movie, but didn’t care for the cartoon. Disappointing.
Well, my family recorded it and on the previous day decided to watch the two recorded shows as a family. The first show we put on didnt come on because the schedule was messed up and the simpsons took it over. We were dissapointed, but glad to have a second. When we turned on the second one the simpsons had also did the same thing UNTIL 12 minutes into the 30 minute show. We were all reallly bummed out since we did not get to see the ending… ahh, well it was funny while it lasted. Cant wait to see… Read more »
@Jim agreed. You either liked the movie or you didn’t. It’s not for everyone. Just like the show isn’t for everyone. I liked it though.
It’s a bomb, in the bad sense.
Enjoyed it. If you didn’t like the movie, it’ll be hard for you to understand this type of black humor.
