NBC has decided to bring their freshman drama, Parenthood, back for a second season.
Parenthood follows the joys and challenges of the Braverman family from Northern California. The large cast includes Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Mae Whitman, Miles Heizer, Erika Christensen, Sam Jaeger, Dax Shepard, Joy Bryant, Monica Potter, Sarah Ramos, and Max Burkholder.
The show got off to a positive start in early March with a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.1 million viewers. The numbers fell to a 2.6 and 6.1 million viewers the following week and dropped even further in week three.
These past few weeks though, Parenthood seems to have settled in to a 2.5 rating and about 6.3 million viewers. That typically translates into Parenthood either sitting in second place or tying for first with CBS’ The Good Wife in the demo.
NBC says that the drama appeals to a high percentage of households with incomes over $100,000 in the key demo and adds about 30% more audience when the time-shifted viewing is figured in. Considering the rest of NBC’s schedule, it’s no surprise that they’ve renewed Parenthood for another season.
The peacock network will announce its 2010-11 schedule on May 17th. Its expected that the Parenthood will return in the fall (rather than mid-season) and keep its current timeslot.
What do you think? Are you glad that Parenthood has been renewed for a second season?

Parenthood is the only show my husband and I watch every week. We can’t wait until Tuesday to see what is going to happen that week. It is definitely the best written show we have ever watched.
Parenthood I love them show wish it was coming back in January and did not have to wait until September! Glad it is coming back though!!!
What happened to the show Parenthood? It was the few shows I look forward to every week.
Parenthood is one of my favorite shows I look forward to it every week! I’ll be so sad if they cancel it..i heard its just getting moved to a different day in the spring did anyone else hear that?
NBC: PULEEZE… The best (or one of them at the very least) show on TV, Parenthood has only 10 episodes, beginnng in mid-Septemeber and ending just before Thanksgiving??? – Get real. Here we are, suffering winter doldrums, and the NBC think tank now wants us to suffer even more with (GAG ME) so-called “reality” crap?? Parenthood’s great scripts, acting, directing and production far surpasses what most of network TV is asking us to digest. Spare me. More Parenthood episodes per season would be great. Of course, who are we? Just fans -who don’t care how many pounds some lardass lost,… Read more »
Both my husband and I are addicted to this show. We believe that this is a very well written and insightful look into a real family’s life events. Please do not cancel this program. It has some really solid messages that it is trying to convey. You can keep “The Good Wife,” this is just another drama that has been repackaged.
In my humble opinion, the Parenthood show is worth keeping. Maybe promoting it more would get others out there to become addicted too?
Sincerely,
Jill Warner
Love the series. But have not seen it play for several weeks sad to see it gone
Parenthood is one of the best shows on TV! If it was aired in an earlier time slot, more people would have watched, and the ratings would be where they deserve to be. The fabulous cast and storylines leave me anxious for the next season to start! This show deserves Emmy nominations in so many catagories that are overlooked. This is one of my favorite shows!
The cast is spectacular and the story line is so realistic! Where did it go? I am going through withdrawal. JK
I can’t find the show on for the month of Dec. 2010 did they cancel it? I love this show I can’t wait for the next show. Where is it?
I think it’s the best show on tv and I would be greatly disappointed to see it come off the air. I watch each episode 2-3 times! It’s excellent.
This is the only show that I truly looked forward to seeing each week. Dont leave the Bravermans out in limbo, you have a great family here to write for. Please no more reality shows. Listen to your viewers. The Parenthood is a great show.
I agree. Enjoy this show!
I honestly can’t believe that NBC would even consider not bringing back Parenthood year after year. With all the crap (and yes, I mean the Biggest Loser and all other reality shows) that airs on a nightly basis, why jump to dump an intelligent, entertaining series? Maybe you should be trying to change your audience instead of your lineup. You just might make some money for a change.
I missed the entire first season of Parenthood, really don’t watch that much TV. Before the second season began, there was an entire day where they aired Season One of Parenthood. Our family LOVED the episodes. We then ordered the entire first season on Netflix so we could catch up before the second season began. We so look forward for each weeks episodes. We like the practicality of the show, how the siblings have their individual problems but at the same time love each other and want the best for each one. Thanks for such good writing.
Must every network, including NBC be overflowing with reality programs? There are actually some viewers whos own lives are quite real to them so when they sit down to watch TV they would like to be entertained. The Apprentice in place of the Bravermans? Please, what brain trust made that decision? A mean, snarky, arrogant inflated ego with a bad hair comb who will belittle, demean, embarass and put down people who had the bad judgment to appear on a show with him in the first place. BRING BACK THE BRAVERMANS. A wonderful loving family despite all their warts and… Read more »
I’m with you,sister!
I agree that all the reality shows are cheap to produce and it shows in the poor acting and script of those involved. They should be shown after 10:00 p.m., when those of us who appreciate good TV are finished for the evening. Personally, I want to be entertained when I watch television. I want to see shows with substance, good acting and a good script. Parenthood is such a show. They have an oustanding cast, and their lives are similar in many ways to most of us. I’m glad that Parenthood will be back in March. Good for NBC.
