NBC has decided to bring their freshman drama, Parenthood, back for a second season.
Parenthood follows the joys and challenges of the Braverman family from Northern California. The large cast includes Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Mae Whitman, Miles Heizer, Erika Christensen, Sam Jaeger, Dax Shepard, Joy Bryant, Monica Potter, Sarah Ramos, and Max Burkholder.
The show got off to a positive start in early March with a 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demo and 8.1 million viewers. The numbers fell to a 2.6 and 6.1 million viewers the following week and dropped even further in week three.
These past few weeks though, Parenthood seems to have settled in to a 2.5 rating and about 6.3 million viewers. That typically translates into Parenthood either sitting in second place or tying for first with CBS’ The Good Wife in the demo.
NBC says that the drama appeals to a high percentage of households with incomes over $100,000 in the key demo and adds about 30% more audience when the time-shifted viewing is figured in. Considering the rest of NBC’s schedule, it’s no surprise that they’ve renewed Parenthood for another season.
The peacock network will announce its 2010-11 schedule on May 17th. Its expected that the Parenthood will return in the fall (rather than mid-season) and keep its current timeslot.
What do you think? Are you glad that Parenthood has been renewed for a second season?

Loved this show! Glad it’s coming back for a second season and hoping for a third, fourth, and keeping fingers crossed for more than that! [=
I love the show, especially Lauren Graham. I’m so glad you are doing season 2. Can’t wait.
Please hurry and bring the show back.
We watched season 1 of Parenthood from start to finish and enjoyed every minute of it, and all the Nissian commericals..LOL. My husband and I love it and we always watch it together. So HAPPY that Parenthood is going to return for season 2.
I loved that show i can’t wait for season two!!
I am a developmental pediatrician who works with autistic children, I think this is the most realistic portrayal of autism I’ve ever seen on the network TV.
YES, Parenthood is my favorite, overall TV show. so sorry I didn’t discover it til almost the end of the season.
The characters really have grown on me, the whole thing is so interesting, and real.
I only watched The Good wife once, and it has no comparison to Parenthood for me.
I must admit, I am one of the viewers that didn’t watch Parenthood on its live slot, but I watched it religiously on Hulu and I cannot wait for the second season! I was ify about it when the season started, because it looked a little cheesy, but I warmed up to it as the season continued and the actors really grew on me. All of the main characters are very well developed and complex and the actors do a good job at depicting their roles.
We love this show! Finally get to watch a show that deals with reality. Everyone has their own issues and its great to see. We look forward to seeing Season Two.
I absolute love the show and I’m glad it’s returning. Can’t wait to watch it again.
Though not in the $100,000+ demographics, I love the show – best show on TV, surpassing “House” for writing and direction. Family members who are starting their families and those of us with grand-children, all look forward to watching the Bravermans.
Love the show!! Yay for season 2!
I liked what I saw in the promos of Parnethood and have been very impressed with it each week. My wife and I record it on the DVR and collect two or three at a time to watch them together. It’s one of those shows I look forward to seeing. I’m very glad it will be back next year. It prove NBC can get some thing right. Way to go Ron Howard you’ve outdone yourself with this.
OMG i LUV this show I’m so excitted to have it back. I love Lauren and her family (amber and bro) its just a super awsome show with real life events!
