The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I will definitely watch Perception if another channel picks it up. This and Rizzoli and Isles are the two best programs on TNT.
Why do they always cancel the good shows and leave the terrible’reality’ shows . The interpersonal relationships are what make this show, as well as showing what a peron with disabilities can accomplish.
I’m very particular about tv shows, but perception held my interest. I was very disappointed when I found out it was cancelled.
I always looked forward to Perception and am confused by its cancellation. This has always been a very good show, intriguing and with a completely different twist. Please reconsider the decision.
THIS WAS A REALLY GOOD PROGRAM. I AM SO TIRED OF THE WAY THESE TV STATIONS START PROGRAMS THEY ARN’T WILLING TO STAND BEHIND. I WOULD AND I AM SURE SEVERAL MILLION OTHER VIEWERS WOULD WATCH PERCEPTION IF IT WAS ON ANOTHER STATION. I DON’T THINK IT MAKES ANY DIFFERENCE WHERE JUST BRING IT BACK.
I looked forward to watching perception, and seeing if I’m on the same wave length. Please don’t cancel the show.
I am also very disappointed. One of the few shows I really enjoy. It seems the shows I really like are the ones the networks cancel.
I really enjoyed this show and it had great potential for even more interesting episodes. If you did a little bit of work on the writing it could have been as popular as castle and ncis.
aside from major crimes, and the new American murder show you introduced last year and reruns of castle almost every thing else on tnt is crap. I guess that is why most of us flip back to usa.
I am terribly disappointed that Perception has been cancelled. One of the few shows I watch.
There should be a season 4. The wedding at the end of season 3 should just be one of Daniel’s hallucinations so the will they / won’t they can continue.
No bring it back good shows are always cancelled
I loved Perception as did my husband. We waited every week for the new episodes and were thrilled when they picked it bscbback up. I am disappointed that TNT does not choose to air quality programming like this. Many of their newer shows are completely vapid. I would follow this show anywhere it aired. I certainly hope that another channel decides to pick up the series. It’s worthy of our time, instead of just wasting brain cells on more stupid reality TV. I hope that TNT actually pays attention to what people want. Everything can’t be aimed at 18 to… Read more »
No I don’t want Perception cancelled!
Bummed!!
This was one of my favorite shows, so sorry to hear it was cancelled.
So disappointed they cancelled this show. I just watched the last five episodes again. I was a late comer to the show – Season 2. This one is hard to lose.
