The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
please bring it back. It was a great show.
I am so disappointed and can tell you I won’t be watching proof, has no appeal as a lot of other shows. I will watch for perception somewhere hopefully, great show.
I’m disappointed the show has been canceled. Rizzoli & Isles should have been canceled.
This is a huge disappointment. Perception was one of the best tv shows TNT had. I hope you would reconsider taking off the air.
I have been waiting for the new season of Perception and, when a new series has been promoted in its stead I had a bad feeling hence, the search on the internet. I am so upset it is not coming back. This so called edgier series is not going to have a viewer with me.
yes I would absolutely watch it on another channel or on Netflix or Hulu I’m so upset that they keep taking all these very good shows off to put these dumb shows on like reality shows and things that nobody really wants to watch but they seem to find a slot for them
This is a show my husband and I both enjoyed together. We DVR’d it every week so we could watch it together. Really disappointed.
we liked the show and are very disappointed that it was cancelled. Of course we are not in the 18-49 group. We are senior citizens, and I feel we never get a chance to watch the shows we like after all we are the ones who are home watching TV. Maybe some of these individuals who do all the testing of shows should consider who is really watching TV. Proof does not look like something my husband and I will watch. Perceptiont was a good show with a very unique story line.
The 18-49 age demographic is what is coveted by the networks.; it determines a shows survival. Paradoxically , the 45-65 age group has 3-5 times the purchasing power of the Turtleman Honey boo boo set.
My grown son and i were shocked hearing if the cancellation if Perception. We never missed an episide, thought the cast was extraordinary. Would watch it on any network so would all its fans!!!
This was one of my favourite shows and I’m terribly disappointed that it’s being cancelled. This show was a rare opportunity for positive representation of mental health and the acting was superb. I realize my opinion will likely mean nothing to TNT, but please think about this and keep this show going.
Loved the show. Please do not cancelled. It is a show where you need to actually think.
I’m sad that perception has been cancelled. It was entertaining and enlightening, a rare combination on tv lately. I will miss it. I enjoyed watching it after Rizzoli and Isles.
I’m very disappointed to learn that Perception was cancelled. I look forward to it every summer after Rozzoli and Isles. Instead tnt substituted Proof, what a crock. Needless to say I WILL NOT be watching Proof.
I am so disappointed that Perception will be going off the air. It is one of the best series on TV. It is original, has great acting and a unique story line. Please reconsider and keep this
show on the air.
